Omaha is the most know because it was the biggest.

Probably most notorious because it was heavily defended, the Nazis had a height advantage (the cliffs), and Allied casualties were the highest there.

Indeed. There's an excellent video on Youtube called "The Fallen of World War Two", which at one point claims that more American soldiers died in one day on Omaha Beach than in all the years of the war in Afghanistan.

I don't think size is anything to do with it, it's more like it has become famous (infamous?) for being the beach with the worst experiences, which resulted in lots of books and then TV and films (including Saving Private Ryan).

That said, not all of Omaha beach was horrific (it did cover about 10km after all) - on some parts of the beach the experience was similar to the other beaches.

My dad landed on Utah Beach on D-Day. He made it through the war.

Visited all the beaches on 70th anniversary, also went to the cemeteries. I saw pictures before I visited, but only when you're there do you realise the scale of sacrifice. It truly sent shivers through me. Lest we Forget.

For some reason I had "Golden sword" in my head. Didn't realise I was mishearing gold and sword. Only got gold. Also kept trying Juneau because I thought heard that as well and it made sense to me as US city. So close yet so far...

There was also a little known 6th Normandy beach, as outlined by the British Historian (& Youtuber) Mark Feldon:

Consider adding as a "bonus"?
