Could the dots become green/disappear when they've been entered ? For the carribean it's especially difficult to see wether you've already typed one or not.
Jesus, 120 out of 196, near constant typing for the duration of the quiz and I get ONE point. Either people who take this are fantastically quick at typing with all 196 calitals commited to memory, they cheat, or I am the worlds slowest ever typer. Average score is 136!? Has the time changed and the average relates to the older time allowance?
I think many have already memorized/learned them all from the other world capital maps out there. Finally, there's a way for us visual learners to master them.
There are a lot of very good typists on this site. And I would also say regulars know all countries and capitals of the world back to front. Put those two together and some averages become high quickly.
Also tablet/phone or laptop/pc makes a huge difference. Things I can do in 12 mins on my laptop I need about15 mins for on my tablet. It types way slower plus nearly a quarter of the words gets a typo unless I am even more slow. So a lot of going back and fixing the words (sometimes trying to fix the same word 3 times in a row)
Really helpful with the map! I have been not very good at capitals, but slowly learning them. Got 125 but still large swaths of Africa, Caribbean, and the Pacific Islands unaccounted for.
I LOVE this quiz! I've been trying to learn all of the world capitals but failing miserably. This is wonderful as I love maps and visuals. I'm already up to about 160 regularly, and learning a few more each time.
Thanks for making this quiz with the map relessness :) It took me a while to learn them all, with ones like Sri Jayawardenpura Kotte, Tegucigalpa and Yamoussoukro, but I got there in the end!
Awesome quiz! This is kind of what I wanted to do with my quiz here: https://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/104324/world-countries-and-capitals-strict-spelling.
Except the countries and the capitals would be selected separately and "light up" on the map accordingly. I couldn't figure out how to build the SVG map though so I just gave up on the map.
How did you figure out how to build your SVG map? Did you already have the background knowledge necessary?
I tried to follow the instructions from the blog entry on this site, but there's something I'm not doing right and I don't know what.
From Wikipedia: A vote in the Parliament of Burundi made the change official on 16 January 2019, with all branches of government expected to move in over three years.
As skiesboy, Dblingah, and others have said, if the dots disappeared or turned green, it would be a lot better to know which capitals you've answered and which ones you haven't.
Very nice quiz but please could you make it so that the dots disappear after you get the capital because I don't know what countries I have left in areas such as the Caribbean. Thanks.
I got just over 100, which for this site is rather bad I guess, but I never studied them or put any effort in trying to learn them. So I am still pretty proud. If you go out in the street most people wouldnt even be able to name a 100 countries. I can name all of them (now, thanks to this site, because I think I was about 15 short before), which I know, means nothing here, but still personally proud, happy I know them all.
Kind of weird how few people know all the countries of this planet, but they can name you hundreds of musicians or other famous people (and in depth stuff about their private life, like what they like for breakfast)
This quiz is great, but it's hard to tell what countries you've done because the dots don't turn green when you get the country. It really hard to tell with the Caribbean and Europe.
I agree with the comments about the dots... This is basically the countries of the world quiz with the type-ins being the capital instead of the country name. It would "play" better if it worked just like the countries of the world quiz --- remove the dots and replace them with the "show missing countries" checkbox, where when checked, the dots disappear when the capital/country is guessed.
I wish all the dots would dissappear when you fill in the city, like it does with sao tome in this quiz or how it works on the countries of the world quiz.
Ironically, the state chose that name instead of Columbia, so as not to be confused with the District of Columbia. But now it is Washington, District of Columbia, so it they didn't quite succeed in having unique names.
When doing quizzes like this I like to hold my breath from just before I start the quiz until I finish it, or complete a quiz within as few breaths as possible. I just managed to finished this in 5 unique breaths! 😁
I would like this one better if the whole country lit up on the map instead of the little blip. It's just easier to see what capital you might be missing when it gets in tight like that.
great quiz!!!!! I spent time getting the world counties naming and locating now my history teacher needs to make me do capitals while everyone else does regular countries. (haha) my next goal is to beat this. 83! not a bad start!

For some reason the Oceanian capitals are easier to remember.

Love this quiz
Yep, America's doomed
Not very hard when it's also the name of one of the most important men of the current era of human civilization.
It's fun to brush up a few times/year. But I'd rather take the time to think about things, than rush.
