I knew as soon as I clicked give up and saw Rod Stewart's name I was going to go "ooooohhhhh!!!" ... and that's what I did.

No, it was Don Rickles you were thinking of.

I knew exactly who he was, could have named a dozen songs he made, but I couldn't hit on his name :(

I didn't know he was known for ANY songs, much less dozens!

Rod Stewart sure looks like Steve Perry. I guess it was the wrong decade.

I thought it was Ron Wood. Kept trying to spell it differently--but not a lot of choice there. Then, I tried Rod Stewart...

No. Steve Perry of Journey was famous at the end of the 70s, too. Perry joined Journey as their lead singer at the end of '77. He was the lead singer on the "Infinity" (Jan '78) and "Evolution" (Mar '79) albums and would certainly been considered a celebrity by the close of the decade.

Rodney Dangerfield was easy money on this quiz.

No, he was one of the hardest. I took a punt that it might be him. Nor did I recognise Carson. They were not well known outside the US in the 70s, although Dangerfield did achieve international fame later.

I actually even tried that despite knowing that it must be wrong. No idea what Johnny Carson looked like. And no idea who Bob Newhart is

Same here, I didn't really believe it, but I tried it anyways since they look somewhat similar.

Not the only similarity in this quiz...

Maybe Nixon’s VP who became President could be replaced by the other president of the 1970s so that quizzers don’t get two answers right with one guess.

Why doesn't "Dwight" work for Elton John? That's his ACTUAL last name.

People have to stop making ridiculous comments like this, I swear. If you know Elton John's birth name, then how would you not figure out the answer? You recognize his picture and say "That's Reginald Dwight. Oh, no THAT'S not working, what do I do now?!!" lol Do you get how dumb that sounds?

His known, famous name is Elton John. The character in that picture IS ELTON JOHN.

Be honest with yourself. What do you get out of nitpicking like this on Jetpunk? If you think it makes you sound smart, boy are you mistaken!

Agreed--and that's not a crime, even if the joke misfires. On a related topic, that photo of Stevland Morris must predate the 70s, before cornrows and all that.

That is NOT his ACTUAL name!!! It is his birth name. He legally changed his name in Jan '72. While his first hit single, "Your Song" was released in '70, it was released on his eponymous "Elton John" album as he was already using that name. I, therefore, submit that Reginald Dwight was never a celebrity in the 1970s... or any succeeding decade. Elton John was... and is.

I agree - I was furious (furious, I tell you) that it wouldn't accept Leslie King for Gerald Ford. So angry that I went outside and told everybody, "Gerald Ford's ACTUAL name was Leslie Lynch King!" And nobody cared.

Hamill's not very well known outside of Star Wars and voice acting. Ford's been one of the highest grossing movie stars for quite some time.

"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'".
