Incredibly offensive and ridiculous to make the clue for Mary Magdalene be "Jesus's girlfriend". Only reason to use that over "Female follower of Jesus" is a political agenda. Please change it.

A political agenda as in...everyone needs someone to love...? It gave me a giggle. I think it's gently playful and the world will probably not end if you keep it Quizmaster :) You could change it to BFF and it would still be cute.

I consider myself somewhat of a religious person and thought it was 1) kind of fun and silly, and 2) an effective clue.

I wasn't offended by the clue, even though I think the notion is absurd. There was a "?" after the clue, implying that this is what some people think. Which is true. People think lots of ridiculous things.

Exactly. We'll never know, but there is a ton of speculation. It's not meant to be offensive. Here's what Wikipedia says:

Several Gnostic writings, usually dated to 2nd and 3rd centuries, paint a drastically different picture of Mary Magdalene from that of the canonical Gospels. In Gnostic writings Mary Magdalene is seen as one of the most important of Jesus' disciples, whom he loved more than the others. The Gnostic Gospel of Philip names Mary Magdalene as Jesus' companion.

No way. Jesus spent his entire adult life wandering around with 12 dudes whom he encouraged to leave their wives and families and follow him. No girls allowed. And totally not in a gay way. Don't go smut up such a wholesome story!

Anybody ever get it where you don't think you know the answer, but then realise a possible "loophole" answer, and as you type it you can't wait to rant about how it's not accepted... and then it turns out it's the right answer. I had that with male model, thinking it was asking for the name of someone. It's rare to be disappointed to get the right answer I guess.

What's so wrong about Jesus possibly having a girlfriend (or perhaps even a wife?) His own mother did not sleep with his earthly father until after he was born, so why couldn't Jesus have a had a chaste relationship with Mary Magdalene? We know very little about his life from birth to twelve years of age and again from 12 until he began his ministry at the age of 30. I believe that the emphasis on his being asexual is to avoid having Catholic priests object to the Church's prohibition against their marrying. How much of the Bible has been withheld from us?
