I love the notorious "Inspirational Teacher" movie genre.

Inspirational Teacher, Set in Las Vegas, Ballet, Horse-Related, and Underwater are all genres, but Fantasy isn't? And no, Fantasy and Science Fiction are not the same thing.

haha... good point. They do have "Medieval Times"... which I thought was a cheesy chain of theme restaurants, but apparently it's also a genre. Nautical is a genre. But adventure is not. Romance or Romantic Comedy is not. No wonder Blockbuster went out of business... they had all the genres mislabled.

I agree with jetpunkmaster...some things on here are WAY too specific to be genres, but fantasy is missing?

I always go straight to the "Underwater" section at my local video rental store.

The problem with the broader genres is that people argue about what is/isn't a part of that genre. For example, I would say that Avatar is fantasy as well as being science fiction.

All science fiction is fantasy. But it has a scientific basis and not a magical basis.

totally wrong. Fantasy is something that has no scientific basis. Magic and so forth. Science fiction is a genre about things that could feasibly or theoretically happen given our current understanding of science. now... some *bad* science fiction obviously could never happen because it's just poorly written or poorly researched... but.... at least they make an effort to ground the story in something like science. Fantasy usually doesn't even make the effort. Star Trek is science fiction... though sometimes certain movies/episodes are quite silly and it starts drifting into fantasy land. Like the last reboot movie with the red matter business. Absurd. Star Wars is pure fantasy. Which is why fans became upset when it started drifting closer toward science fiction in Episode 1 when Qui Gon began blathering on about midichlorians... they were jumping genres. Avatar is not fantasy, even though it might feel in some ways like fantasy because of the setting. It's straight science fiction.

"Hey honey! I'm going to pick up a movie at the video store! What do you want? Action? Comedy?"
"No... I'm more in the mood for something Nautical."
hahaha... I think I'll try to make a quiz like this that uses real genres. It will just take a while to put together.
