What is a cowbird? Never heard. Although I am all for accepting more correct answers, just.. I think cuckoos are more universally known.

Depends on if you live where there are cuckoos, or cowbirds. I think of cuckoos for their call, rather than their nesting habits.

One more here for cowbirds. I've never seen a cuckoo in my life (except in clocks) but I have cowbirds at my bird feeder all the time.

Is not 'Calor' a Spanish word meaning hot?
+2
Level 69
Dec 9, 2015
A more accurate meaning would be "heat" not "hot"
+2
Level 37
Sep 4, 2018
I really believe it depends more on the usage. "Hace calor: It's hot" (as in weather) "La comida es muy caliente: the food is very hot."
+4
Level 86
Nov 23, 2018
"Calor" means heat; it's a noun, not an adjective. Just because sometimes the most natural English translation involves the word "hot," that doesn't mean that's what calor means. A literal translation of "hace calor" would be "it makes heat."

Level 73

But what a word "means" is itself influenced by the language you're thinking in right? This quiz isn't asking for the word to describe a concept superseding language, it's asking for the word that means "hot"… which is a word in English, not a universally understood wordless idea. I strongly feel that any reasonable translation of any of the common English meanings of the world "hot" should be allowed, because that's essentially what the question is asking for.
+2
Level 76
Sep 13, 2023
The question is asking for the Spanish word for 'hot', not some nebulous handwavy 'interpretation' of the meaning.
+2
Level 77
May 18, 2021
You are right. Calor can sometimes mean hot, like in the phrase "tengo calor" which means "I feel hot" or "I'm hot"
+1
Level 76
Sep 13, 2023
You are right only if 'tengo' means 'I feel' or 'I am', which it doesn't.
+1
Level 23
Apr 12, 2024
Tengo means "I have," so your sentence means, "I have HEAT." That shows heat. How old are you?

The cranium is actually made of several form, so maybe the question would be better phrased as something like "group of bones"
