jewish hat type thing.

It's probably tougher after seeing an incorrect spelling rather than just hearing the word.

Archeology is a legitimate alternate spelling of archaeology

A yarmulke is the little round head cover that Jewish men wear.

Yeah I second archeology being legit. Loved this quiz, btw.

I have no idea why I know how to spell yarmulke, but it helped me get 28/28!

I could probably spell some of these correctly, but seeing the incorrect spelling threw me off a little. Good quiz!

I like it 17/28. However i had to fight the urge not to right click on the misspelled word and auto-correct it!

@geoquizpro: A yarmulke is the skullcap worn especially by Orthodox and Conservative Jewish males in the synagogue and the home.

Very hard when the wrong spelling is right in front of you... Especially racing against the clock O_O I only got 21/28.

johnnyaitch is exactly right. I had to stop looking at the word and close my eyes to visualize it. Once you see it misspelled it completely throws you off. Great quiz!

I also agree with it being harder when looking at the word. Also I know what a yarmulke is and how to spell it. I just didn't know what word you were going for.

Huh. Under "Yamaka", I was thinking the ATV brand.

I was stumped by "segway", since a segway is a thing. But to be fair, I wasn't familiar with the spelling of segue either.

Oh that segue. @ctleng76 me too
Jul 10, 2011  delete  reply
ampsoccer17
you should be more specific with segue. i thought it meant the motorized vehicle
Jul 12, 2011  delete  reply
No, keep the "segway" hint the way it is, It's their own fault if they're not aware that it's not just the vehicle and that the vehicle's spelling is constantly used as that of the actually word. 24/28 on my first try; the only ones I missed were the ones that I didn't realize were words in the first place.

segue - a smooth and direct transistion, and that's not a dictionary definition. that's just the context in which I have always heard it.
Jul 20, 2011  delete  reply
acer9199
actually it's used in music composition quite a bit. but there are many apps for it.

That is so much harder when you read the word already misspeled. lol
Jan 30, 2012  delete  reply
I didn't spell paraphernalia, indispensable, and prerogative. I can't believe I misspelled somersault...
Feb 7, 2012  delete  reply
I got 14/28 but I got Yamulke...it's a Jewish thing :)
Feb 8, 2012  delete  reply
Seeing Hallelujah spelled hallaluja, i couldn't even figure out what the word was xD

archeology is an actually thing.. its: "the study of human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other physical remains." so you should probably change the miss spelling to a different form of archaeology.

I know what a yarmulke is, but i would never connect with yamaka. never heard of that spelling
Apr 22, 2012  delete  reply
I thought I would breeze through this. It's much harder than it looks.
Apr 30, 2012  delete  reply
16/28 I'm so proud of myself. Considering I sing the Hallelujah Chorus every year in Choir, it's kind of shaming that I coultn't figure out how to spell it.

wow. great quiz. loved it. u should make more lik it

Really good fun - though I have no idea what yamuka (?) or bellwether might be.

How about "accommodation"? Almost always misspelt as "accomodation" ?
Jul 9, 2012  delete  reply
PS - loved the game!!
Jul 9, 2012  delete  reply
So close, the only one I didn't get was Yarmulke. Normally every quiz on this site has a bunch of idiots in the comment section harping on about how this or that misspelling should be accepted because they're too ignorant to learn the right way. Hopefully this shuts them up.

I also had to resist the urge to spell 'humorous' the Canadian way.

the only way I could decently get through this was to quickly look at the word and spell it how i thought it was
Apr 10, 2013  delete  reply
I hear ya! After I saw the misspelled word, I would completely forget how to accurately spell it! So I would have to visualize the word in my mind. lol

got 26! didn't know what yarmulke or belwether were so didn't get them right. Fun game!
Apr 24, 2013  delete  reply
Gah! I almost didn't get yarmulke because "yamaka" looks nothing like it. It sounds Japanese. :/ And segue I didn't get because I had no idea what it was, and since segway is a thing. And bellwether I had no idea what it was. :(
