Dear and expensive? I didn't know "dear" could be used that way.

@ ctleng76, it's certainly used here in Britain- but tends to be considered as old-fashioned language. I also put wrap..... maybe that could be accpeted too?

wrap

Woot, got 100% with 2:00 left on first try. "Dear" is used in that sense in the lyrics to "When I'm Sixty-Four"!

I've never heard someone say "hey stop parroting me!" And never knew you longed for a pine.

You don't long for a pine, you pine for the fjords.

I actually got it right, but I still have a problem with desert. For it to be considered a word with dual meanings, it needs to share the same pronunciation both ways, which results in both definitions being listed under the same entry. If (like with desert) it doesn't, the two words are actually listed separately in the dictionary.

"expensive" and "opening to a letter" also works in French -- "cher"! (actually it works better because it is the normal word for "expensive")...thought of that first and thought it was interesting!
2011-12-01 | reply
I agree with tsuchutzer. I Got it right, but "desert" as in arid land is emphasised on the first syllable, while "desert" as in to abandon is emphasised on the second syllable. Also, I put mock or mocking as an answer to for mimicking and a bird.

Mocking and mimicking are quite different.
2011-12-06 | reply
I say "dear" to mean expensive all the time, that's just what I say... I didn't realise it was odd until some friends pointed out to me that nobody else said it and they only knew what I meant because they were used to me...
