I put evangelical. I think that should count too right?

"Ether" is a bit misleading. Almost all widely used anesthetics are in fact ethers. Perhaps "ethylene" would be a better answer?

The biblical one is very misleading. I tried everything but that. An elect is anyone who's been appointed by others to fulfill a role (an elect official, for example), not specificly a biblical one.... Please consider changing the hint.

The clue is actually very specific. You either know it or you don't.

I disagree. You may be driven to think of races of people, or specific denominations for groups of people, instead of such a general characterization (enochians, eberites, ephraimites). Search for "elect" in google and i doubt you'll get any theological hit on the first 10 pages. Search in an online dictionary and you'll have to do a lot of scrolling down. It's not the main use of that word. It's like putting "juice" as a hint and expect to get "orange." Why not go with "Person voted into office" or "Assigned by suffrage"?

this isn't jeopardy... just because the answer could belong to more than one clue doesn't mean it's bad. As long as the clue leads to a specific answer it works. This one just happens to be one that people who aren't familiar with certain branches of protestant theology might not think of right off the bat.
