You might want to accept Lilith as the first woman as well, since we're speaking biblically.

Can't you accept Rockerfeller? I'd have got it otherwise. :( This was hard. Way too America-centric.

Rockerfeller will work now.

@ImprovShoes, Lilith is supposed to be Adam's first wife, but that's an extrabiblical story.
2011-10-30 | reply
@mike34ism Adam and Eve were the only two people on earth, Then they had a ton of kids (biblically). Only 98% of people know our president? I'm scared.

@Mithol: Bible, Billionaire, Harry Potter, Olympics, and the hardest one on the quiz, Sherlock Holmes, are all not American. Nor is the city of Rome, the World Cup, the Beatles, or Sir Francis Drake. If you expect there to be NO American things, it would be odd as this quiz site is, I am fairly sure, created and run by Americans. And about John Hancock: I knew he was the answer that would be accepted, yet is he really the 1st signer? I know he signed biggest and was the President of the Continental Congress at the time, but I didn't know if he signed first.

I disagree with the Civil War "First", the battle of Fort Sumter was in the 1800's yes? How on earth is that the first civil war when there were quite a few civil wars in Ancient Rome?? The one I can remember atm was between Julius Caesar and Pompey which was from 49 - 45 BC (or BCE). That was definitely before the 1800's.

Isn't it Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone? Please Please Me isn't an album, it's a single. It may be mostly semantics, but : Ft Sumter saw the first action of what became the US Civil War, but I think it was actually before the war started, and I don't think it was considered a "battle". The First Battle of Bull Run (aka Manassas) is generally considered the first battle of the war

Please Please me absolutely IS an album, and Philosopher's Stone is the original title. It was changed for the American audience because publishers knew there was no fucking way American kids would read a book with 'philosopher' in the title.

Its harry potter and the sorcerer's stone

@merkin Please don't sit there and say that American kids wouldn't read something with "Philosopher" in the title. As an American who is and always has been an avid reader, I find it incredibly insulting.

@Hdny42, Hancock was the first signer
2012-01-11 | reply
I really am so surprised that so many people on this site don't seem to know that The Philosopher's Stone is the original title that JK Rowling came up with for Harry Potter, as it's general knowledge here (Aus) that the title was changed in the US, I thought it would be just as well known there that Sorcerer's Stone is not the true title... Not trying to bag anyone, just stating my thoughts

@Hdny42 although it is impossible to know for sure, John Hancock is widely regarded as the first signer of the Declaration of Independence. The level of accuracy within historical records is debatable as are most things that cannot be confirmed from a first party standpoint, but it's really all we have to go on. and @darkseraphim21 I completely agree with you. Just because something has the word "philosopher" in the title doesn't mean all American children won't read it. I'm American and have and always will be an avid reader and am not off put by a title's word. That assumption is just ignorant.
