I don't know what FIFA means.. I thought it was those guys that take money from my paycheck... but after a google search it turns out that's FICA.. I guessed David Beckham only because he's the only soccer player I've ever heard of in my life. So I got 1/35. Not stupid, just shows how much most Americans don't care about soccer.

You've got that right...but on the flip side, I'll bet most people around the world have never heard of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Derek Jeter or Alex Rodriguez and probably think that American sports suck just as much as we disregard soccer.

I was brainwashed into thinking soccer sucks for the better part of my life just like 90% of Americans...But my college roommate was a big Chelsea fan (English league team based out of West London) and I started watching and rooting for the team (pre-abromavich 00-01).. The amount of competitions each team plays in (multiple cups where every team including the "minor leagues" has a chance to win, domestic league, and European cups for the top teams in each country) makes every game count for something. Please dont cry to me about not liking soccer because of the flopping as the NBA has more flops per game than there is in a soccer match. There are also no commercials except for halftime, meaning the game is over inside of 2 hours and you dont have to watch the same chevy commercial 90 times in the last 2 minutes of a game. I can't explain how much the no commercial thing really appealed to me. I think the real issue is that Americans just dont have a team to root for.

I love baseball, football, basketball, and hockey...And I really dont understand how a hockey fan couldnt like soccer as the sports are very similar in scoring and tactics.. Same goes for baseball fans..As much as I like baseball it is a GD boring sport to watch with out much scoring, so the argument of not liking soccer because it doesnt have enough scoring doesnt hold. I guarentee if you went to a soccer match in London dripping drunk with a handful of your friends you would be absolutely hooked...No offense to our women friends, but there are none at a soccer game so you can be as loud and obnoxious as you like with out hearing some "pink hat" tell you to stop being rude. Its like going to a game in the mid-90s again before sporting events turned into a place to be seen and a status symbol. Also, the games are in the morning on Saturday and Sunday and in the afternoon on Wed and Thurs which makes in a perfect segway to other sports on later that night or day.

Some of the answers are incorrect. For example, not Batistuta but Shevchenko came 3rd in 1999. That is, according to several websites that I checked afterwards,

There used to be two awards. You're probably thinking of the Ballon d'Or. We are using this one:

Please, please, PLEASE...Stop calling this wonderfull and most popular sport in the world "Soccer"...Its called Football.....FOOTBALL. All over the world, accept in the US( where you call some boring Sport football, altough 99% of the players never ever touch the ball with their feet...), people will know what you mean wenn you mention Football, and believe me, it's not the sport that's only popular in the US....

I agree, Britain invented the sport so it should be called by the british name

great quiz. I'm Canadian and most people here play soccer growing up instead of hockey (yes, it's true). The affordability and game times are what's most appealing to parents when enrolling their children in a sport. Point being is that there are many many soccer fans in Canada.

Oh, man, I began to play defender precisely because of Matthaus and Maldini, specially the Italian "wall", God, was he out of this world
