Australia is not a continent, Australasia, or Oceania is the continent's name, please fix this.
Many thanks

According to Wikipedia, it's Australia. I added Oceania and Australasia as acceptable answers, however.

Not everyone is a native English speaker. Can you name all the days of the week in Spanish? How about German? Do you see what I'm getting at?

Philosopher's stone was the original release in England. The American release a year later was Sorcerer's Stone

Australia is most certainly a continent; "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" is an alternate title to the more common "Sorcerer's Stone"; and more time is definitely needed for this quiz.

Actually, Philosopher's Stone is the original, published in Britain. Rowling knew that us Americans wouldn't know what that means, so in the USA, it was published as Sorcerer's Stone.

JK Rowling sounds conceited then. I'm American, and I'm familiar with the Philosopher stone. I don't like this implication that all Americans are morons, especially from someone who IS American.
Some of us are capable of dealing with four syllable words.

Harry Potter is a children's series. Most American children aren't going to know that a philosopher is also another word for wizard

Especially since in America (in general) 'philosopher' does not have the mystical connotation that it carries in Britain, but connotes a more scholarly approach to knowledge. The title was translated (between English dialects) to carry a closer meaning.

I love these group quizzes! There's always a few that I know perfectly, and then a few groups I'm so bad at (the Harry Potter books.. only got one). Pretty sad that the days of the week are not at 100%..

Got all the HP books, deadly sins, G-7 countries (even though I'm not sure what that means), colours, continents, dwarfs and days. Only got Eagle in the BSA one. And got no seven summits. What are seven summits by the way?

It is a great overstatement to claim that "Sorcerers stone" is more common.
Surely it is in america as it is a much bigger country, however the original and correct version is Philosophers stone the title the books author J.K. Rowling called it. However she and american publishers didn't think america was smart enough for a four syllable word so changed it to another word for wizard (therefore dumbing it down) for america.
Nov 13, 2011 delete reply
nekluvshp
It has nothing to do with "dumbing it down". Philosopher has a different meaning here than it does in the UK. To us, a philosopher is like a wise person, to them it pretty much means wizard.

@gingerbreadman and @darkseraphim21: I believe that it wasn't changed to sorcerer's stone because of the steriotype that americans are stupid, but because of the connotation of philosopher. To me anyways, a philosopher is sort of a wise man or a teacher, while a sorcerer is always a wizard. (And I'm an American!)

Anger should be accept for deadly sins, it is often referred to as anger, not just as wrath. Also, needs a bit more time, I knew more but time was my biggest enemy.

@happygrrl, I disagree, J.K.Rowling once said in an interview that she and the American publishers thought that "philosopher" wasn't a suitable word for Americans as it was thought of as a difficult word to understand. I don't agree with this, but that is what she said.

I love how American's are "stupid", however none of the people that imply this take the time to realize that in a country with as large of a population as America there's bound to be intelligence variation. That's basic statistics. Also, location has nothing to do with intelligence and therefore these claims are totally unquantifiable.
Feb 11, 2012 delete reply

philosopher is difficult to understand for americans because we have a different connotation for that word.

You have made one big mistake in former Yugoslav republics. Kosovo wasn't republic. It was autonomous province which was part of republic of Serbia (like Vojvodina). So Yugoslav republics can only be somewhere with "Groups of 6"

Yugoslavia had six republics, Kosovo was never one of them, so you should change that in a way to ask which are the seven countries that became of what was former Yugoslavia.
