Do people even say half of these things? Like 'za, has anyone ever said that? Maybe in the US...

My dad says that, but I always thought that was him being weird

'Za is more "surfer" in my book. Telly is definitely more British than American.

Aggro is also aggression - as in: Don't give me any aggro over this.

Isn't "barbecue" the standard (or at least an alternate) spelling?

You're right. I think barbecue is preferred. Changed it to that. Thanks!

za is nothing. and legit is a legit word. aaaand to make any other case for the meaning of diff is a bit nitpicky.

Added a bunch of aggro options too. Apparently, people in the UK use aggro to mean aggravation, as in "I didn't bother because it because it was too much aggro".

It doesnt bother me when people write these shortened versions in short text messages. Some of them are ok to hear spoken. But when people start using them in formal conversations or documents, or using them as if they were legitimate* words, i feel great sorrow for civilization.

Barbie threw me off. I was fully expecting it to be something related to a female who is all "dolled up". Barby may have worked better for me.. but it seems as if I am alone on that, since everyone else understood it to be barbecue lol. Telly also had me scratching my head because in the 90s it meant telephone and in the 2k's it meant hotel. Ahhh... guess it matters where you are from.

When people say "Don't give me any aggro over this", it isn't short for "aggression". It's still short for "aggravation". I submit that "aggression" is actually a wrong answer for "aggro".

In the American sense, we use it to mean "Aggressive". Such as, "I don't like to go to the club, because there's a bunch of aggro dudes trying to start fights."

Barbie and telly are just how I've heard those words said in Australia and England, respectively. I've never heard anyone in American say them before. Are they common shortenings? o.O

I'm American (mid-Atlantic), and I have NEVER heard "aggro" to mean aggressive, not even online or in the media. Sounds to me like it's probably regional.
