Heavens! Why on earth do children keep revealing their age online? Didn't your parents teach you better? You seem like intelligent children being that you can recite a foreign alphabet yet you don't know not to reveal personal information online...

I never understood why in English they totally change the pronunciation of the actual Greek letters (in Greek)!? B is pronounced Veeta (Vita) not Beta M & N are not Miu (it is not like the sound of a cow!) & Niu (not like new!!). M is pronounced like Me (me/he/she). N is the same, it is pronounced Ne (like the beginning of the word NEither) P(Π) is not a pie and it is not pronounced like that either! It is Pee, like you want to do #1. If anyone goes to Greece and tries to spell Greek letters the way they are teaching them in English, I guarantee you no one will understand a word! This is the proper way to spell and pronounce the A-B: Alfa Veeta Gamma Delta (actually Thelta since the Word D is the combination of N+T in Greek hense not part of Δ which really sounds like the beginning of the word The) Epsilon Zeeta Theeta Iota Kappa Lamba Me Ne Xe Omikron Pee Ro Sigma Taf Ypsilon Fee Chee Psee Omega !!!

Well, as a French who studied old greek back at school, I'd say that we are mostly teached old greek, not modern greek. And the prononciations are not all the same, our teachers often recalled us. Plus old greek is not teached for conversations, so for exemple the way to prononce the letters names is less relevent. I guess if you take a modern greek course, you would have to learn precisely the modern way to prononce them.

Old greek studies don't necessarily concern modern greek studies, like learning latin is not all related to learning italian. If you take the latin alphabet, in french we don't prononce the letters the same way they do in english or in german. So don't take it personally as a greek speacker. :)

Cedo, what the op says, is right. The names of letters in the quiz are totally wrong. He has spelled them correct, (if you can really spell letters in a foreign language) contrary to those that exist in the quiz. Your teachers could be wrong you know. Ancient greek, indeed included some other letters, and pronounced WORDS differently. NOT letters. The letters of the modern greek alphabet, that date back to those that existed at those times, retain their name. In any case, M is and WAS pronounced close to "Me" like in the sentence "he told me I was wrong". It was never pronounced close to Mu/miu or whatever. PS. I live in Greece, modern greek is my native language, and ancient greek is taught in our schools for many grades, and by many teachers. No one, simply no one could accept pronouncing M as Mu whatever the situation could be. Even wikipedia supports this... P.S. Let's face it, this quiz needs to be modified a bit.

I remember as a student in elementary school that my older brother, in university was studying greek philosophers, and one of his books had the Greek alphabet at the back of the text. I took it upon myself to memorize it. It's amazing how it came back to me. I got them all but some spellings slowed me down. P.S. I am now 66 years old, so that was a while back.
