Twilight Zone as I remember was not directed by Spielberg. As I remember it was John Landis who also directed the Thriller Video by Michael Jackson. The fourteen percent of people who guessed this are wrong.

Twilight Zone had 4 directors. One was Steven Spielberg, John Landis was another.

what about duel!?

Duel was a made-for-TV movie, not a feature film. Either way, one of his best!

How is he over-rated?

Who said he was over-rated? I think Spielberg's great, but I wonder with a lot of directors/actors/writers if they hit a peak and then descend from it even though they rarely or never retire. For instance, will Spielberg ever be as good as he was from the 80's through Schindler's List and Jurassic Park in 1993? He's made some great ones since then, but I wonder if that was his peak. He's had some great ones still since then, like Saving Private Ryan, Munich, and (in my opinion), Minority Report, while I very much enjoyed but would consider lighter fare The Terminal and Catch me If you Can. I think War of the Worlds was good but not great and I was let down by the weak ending. I have little-to-no interest in Tintin, not too much in War Horse, and HATED the latest Indiana Jones movie. I know that George Lucas was heavily involved in the Indiana Jones debacle and everything he's touched since 1989 (Last Crusade) has turned to s**t, but still, I was hoping Spielberg could save the movie from him and he could not.

Agree with Hdny42. He's not over-rated as a director - he's made some amazing all-time classic movies. His track record over the last few years hasn't been the greatest, but how can you call someone with a resume that includes Jaws, the first 3 Indiana Jones movies, E.T., Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, and Jurassic Park over-rated?

Over-rated doesn't mean bad. In fact, the best in the world could still be over-rated. (Not that Spielberg is the best by any means)

In English its The Colour Purple... it doesn't accept the proper English spelling...
Quizmaster replies:
Okay. That will work now.

"Over-rated" might not mean bad, but "America's most over-rated director" DOES mean bad, when you consider how many directors of multiple truly awful movies are still being tagged for big-budget directorial jobs. If you're saying Spielberg is more over-rated than, for instance, M. Night Shyamalan or Brian De Palma, you're basically saying he had a couple of critically acclaimed hits in his past and has been skating by on nothing but reputation ever since... or at least he's doing it more than the two sticking-out-like-a-sore-thumb examples above.
