And yeah, gotta agree with Greg here. Mammals are classified as having live births, which marsupials do. Basically everything is a mammal except for birds and reptiles and amphibians, unless I'm mistaken. ^^;;

You forgot fish. Some snakes have live births. The way we learned it is an animal that has hair essentially, even if you can't see it (dolphins, whales, etc.) and warm blooded.

Mammals are animals that are milk producing. milk, mammary, mammal. Platypus and echidna are both mammals that lay eggs but they have mammary glands.

It is actually innacurate to call "everything is a mammal except for..." Because mammals are such a small part of the ecosystem. There may be hundreds of thousands, if not millions of animal species, and only 5400 are mammals.

well...basically everything is not a mammal. a fraction of all living things.

You say "everything is a mammal except for birds and reptiles" so does that mean that plasticine and helicopters are mammals?

Hehe, once again I spelt Meercat. I also randomly spelt the first mammal as "Armidello", which sadly wasn't accepted, so I had to google it XD!

darkseraphim21: mammals are animals with mammary glands, or glands that give milk. Some fish and reptiles have "live births" and that wouldnt necessarily make them a mammal, would it?

Meercat should be accepted. It's an easy and common mispelling. If you see the word meercat, you would surely know I was talking about meerkats, right?

If you see the words Hrary Poter, you also probably will be able to guess I meant Harry Potter, but that still won't mean J. K. Rowling's book s are named like this.

It might not be a bad idea to find a better picture of a shrew. From that angle it could be any rodent.
Aug 28, 2011
omp199
(13)
Oh, I entirely agree with you. Apart from the facts that (a) shrews aren't rodents, (b) the animal in that picture doesn't look like a rodent, and (c) it actually looks pretty much like a shrew.

You should let opossum be spelled with two p's. I realize misspelling are probably not the best to accept, but I could swear that when I was a kid we were spelling it with two p's. Was it ever changed from two to one I wonder?

They got the name from the noise they make. Being nocturnal, the first sign early settlers had that the devils were out there in the bush was their eerie shrieking.
