Loved this, too. Many great (Al Green!) and awful memories (Baby, Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me - gaggg). Got quite a few by accident. Who remembers "M," really?

I remember M! Had the album on 8-track back in the day!

I saw Mac Davis in concert, and he said that song actually started as a joke. When he met with recording executives they told him his songs were good, but he just didn't have a "hook" song and he'd need one before he could record the album. He quickly wrote the song as sort of a joke. When the execs returned he sang them the song and they liked it well enough to do his album. It became his biggest hit.

Still an issue. I got caught on it for a while, since I'd already put the Miracles in for He Don't Love You, and started to think maybe they'd just covered it. Not a big deal in the end, since I finished the quiz without it populated, but a little odd.

This quiz is not set up like the other #1 hits ones are. When you type in the first name, it should populate all - e.g. 'Simon' should get you 'Simon and Garfunkel' and 'Hal' should get you 'Ha;; and Oats' just like typing in 'Captain' will get you 'Captain and Tenille.'

The peanut gallery that feels compelled to whine about how terrible modern music is on *every quiz about modern music* should take a look at this list. A handful of classics, some so-so tunes...and a whole heap of garbage. More proof that the most popular music is rarely the best. Not one Zeppelin song on here. No Billy Joel. No Aretha Franklin. But three songs by Helen Reddy.

M and Terry Jacks both high up due to type ins. So interesting to see who has been (relatively) forgotten based on the scores. Most of the lower echelon is one hit wonders or acts with very short term success but really surprised to see the Staples Singers so low down on the list. Mavis still tours and she is AMAZING live.

I have every single Billboard #1 song from 1940 ("I'll Never Smile Again" by Tommy Dorsey with a young Frank Sinatra on vocals) to current day ("Perfect" by Ed Sheeran with Beyonce). I LOVE these types of quizzes!

I collected them all on 45 when I was younger. Then switched to cassingle in the early 90's, then CD single in late 90's, and finally digital in early 2000's. I now have every song digitally (1,322 songs total). I'm fascinated by the changes in music styles and chart methodologies over the years and how music (especially popular music) reflects the times they were released in. I love almost all styles of music (though not so much the modern crop of male country singers) but 80's new wave and 60's Motown (which was before my time) are personal faves.

Queen wouldn't get their first US number-one hit until February 1980.

Did Black Sabbath or Deep Purple really ever have a #1 song anywhere? I don't think anyone's ever heard of The Stranglers.

Many of my entries were right but not accepted. It is a little frustrating. I'd type, then look and they had disappeared.

That means that part of your answer was already correct. Like as soon as you type "m" it is right.

Managed to get some obscure ones like Bo Donaldson, Rose Royce, Paper Lace etc then missed Fleetwood Mac, Wings and Donna Summer 🤦‍♀️

Super fun quiz though. Really enjoyed these decade music quizzes

I did pretty well for this being before my time, but I had no idea Olivia Newton-John was so popular. Doesn't seem like many of her hits have made it to the oldies stations.

The Star Wars theme and the Cantina were both created by John Williams. Later, yes, it was re-recorded by Meco, but not by them.

Can we accept Bachmann turner overdrive for that question? I've never seen the name written down before so I went with what I thought was a logical spelling, didn't get it accepted so assumed I was wrong (this isn't really my era) :(

Good thing I'm not a gambling woman because I would have bet money that Carole King had a number one hit with You've Got a Friend. Had to look it up to learn while her album Tapestry was number one for weeks, she never released the song as a single. It was one of my favorite albums of the '70s.

James Bland Taylor had a bigger hit with the song. It seems eventually every female singer will do a song off Tapestry; she really had a bigger impact.

I feel like Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band should accept John Williams. Just generally, for songs written by someone other than the artist by whom they were performed should accept the writer as well as the performer. No reasonable person would associate the cantina theme with Meco more so than John Williams.
