Wouldn't a "shank" also be a makeshift knife?

Yes, it would. Added that as an acceptable answer. Thanks!

Wouldn't words such as smallest, shortest, slowest, etc. work for a word ending in "-est". If not I think the question needs to be more specific. Maybe it should be worded as "A type of word that ends in -est".

I think speleology should also be an acceptable answer for cave exploring.

A shank is not a makeshift knife. The shiv is the knife, shank is a verb meaning to stab someone 'with' a shiv.

Oh, goodness. Please change it to "type of word ending in -est". I spent forever trying to make "suggest" work.

Definitely should expound on ending in -est. Not all superlatives end that way and you don't indicate that it's a specific type of word. A very important clue that is needed. Otherwise a good quiz but the ends in -est is, honestly, a terrible clue.

I thought the ends in -est was good! You may want to consider allowing "shul" as well as synagogue for the Jewish place of worship. =)

i agree with muriea, i kept trying words that start with s and end in est...didn't think it meant what a word that ended in est was called

The ending in -est question might be clearer if you changed it to "Words ending in -est." since the plural connotes a more general sense. The singular connotes a specific example. This also would alleviate the concern that not all superlatives end in -est. The logic is that words that end in -est are superlatives, but not all superlatives end in -est. Just a thought.
