I didn't know until I took this quiz that Nora is a nickname. I just assumed it was a stand alone name. A little tricky with the Russian name Sasha.

Had no idea about Sasha and didn't realize Nora was a nickname (but figured that out)

Alexander is a boy's name and Sasha is, or so I thought, a girl's name...?

I grew up with a Christine who was called Tina - that should count. Also, short for Elizabeth is Beth. Never heard of Alexander - thought it was Anastasia. ???

I've known a lot of Sasha's, both male and female... the females real names were Alexandra and the male's were Alexander.... it's short for either.

Sasha is a unisex name in Russia @elm044 Also, my name is Elizabeth, and I'm called Liz, Beth, Betsy and a whole long list of names @triviamomma. Elizabeth actually has the most nicknames of any other.

I know a Tina whose full name is Martina.

Ditto @griffey5050 And I never understood how Jack could be short for John. They are the same amount of letters so how hard could it be to just say John?

ctleng76
Actually John is also a short form. Technically the answer should be Johnathan. Also, Christine is a short form of Christina, which is why Christine wouldn't technically be right.

MuseOfTragedy
Hah, I only knew Sasha because that's my name. But it's not short for Alexandra in my case. Sasha's the name on my birth certificate. @Rittings: Sasha applies to both Alexander and Alexandra.

Nora is also short for Lenora. That kept throwing me off because that's the only variation I've heard. And I'll join the ranks for having never heard Sasha as a nickname for Alexander/ Alexandra.

Got them all but Nora. I never knew it was short for Eleanor.

In Russian, there is many variations of the names Alexander and Alexandra. These include Sahsa, Sanya, and Shurik in some cases.

A lot of these names have more than one nickname, some of which don't make any sense. My grandparents are Harry (short for Henry) and Peggy (short for Margaret, I've never understood that one!).
