Fulton invented the steamboat not the sub.
Quizmaster replies:
He made the first sub and the first commercially successful steamboat.

"He made the first sub" No, he didn't. The first person to describe the principle of a sub was William Bourne in 1580. (but he did not build it) The first working submarine was built in 1623 by Cornelius Drebbel. Tested in the thames managed to stay submerged for severl hours. 1654: The 72-foot-long "Rotterdam Boat" was designed by De Son the first underwater vessel specifically built to attack an enemy. (it was too underpowered to actually go anywhere, but still) David Bushnell built the first submarine to actually make an attack on an enemy warship. Dubbed the "Turtle", in 1776. Then in 1800, Robert Fulton finally made the Nautilus. The quiz is named "who Invented that". Robert Fulton did not invent the submarine, he just made one at some point.
Quizmaster replies:
He is credited with the invention by many sources. That's why I made the disclaimer. The idea of a single inventor is a myth of history.

That's pretty subjective Quizmaster. I would submit the motion that you at least submit Bushnell. For a lot of people, that would be the first person to pop to mind.

The Wright Brothers didn't invent the airplane. They just had the first successful flight.

@bajom: the definition of a machine gun is a firearm (mounted or portable) which fires bullets in rapid succession and continues to operate when the trigger is held down
