Guinea-Bissau ? Hyphenated words are considered one word I believe.

I don't think they are. Can't use them in Scrabble.

That's only because you can't play a hyphen in Scrabble. Most word processors count a hyphenated string as one word.

Well, linguistically speaking, country names with multiple spaces like 'United Kingdom' might also count as one 'word' since they act as a single unit in the sentence and you can rarely or never put other elements in the middle. But those aren't the rules of this quiz.

Eh? The phrase "United Kingdom" has a space in it. By conventional usage, that means it's two words. (And all word processors would count it as such.)

Conventional usage is not the same as how linguists define things.

Linguists tend not to care about what "counts" as a word anyway because it turns out not to be a very useful concept for studying languages.

As far as silly internet quizzes go, I don't think there's a right answer to the hyphen question, but surely people will complain no matter which option you choose.

Hyphenated words are also validly written with a space instead of a hyphen, according to my local spelling bee from when I was 10.

Sigh. Yet another "name countries" quiz. I want to see more variety in the quizzes that get featured.

This series does feel particularly barrel-scraping. It didn't annoy me though, I'm not averse to mentally travelling the world seeking any country that satisfies my needs.

There are already plenty of excellent, unfeatured quizzes languishing in obscurity on this website. (And also, I have made some quizzes.)

Not me thinking Mauritius was in Asia... because after all these years on JP I still can't keep Mauritius and Maldives straight. Obviously I need to go on a lengthy fact-finding trip to cement this into my head.

Well I just learned that Luxemburg is spelled Luxembourg. Had no idea, and I guess every other quiz accepts it for me.
