Malaysia is the king due to the world's desire for unhealthy foods. Tropical forests are being replaced by palm oil plantations. Unfortunate are the orangutans in the way of "progress".

I wonder what caused the decline in the US? I was under the impression that forest cover in the US. has generally been increasing since the early 1900s. Maybe forest fires in the west are responsible?

On a side note, if you donate to the Arbor Day foundation, they can reforest an acre of land for less than $2,000, which could offset a significant portion of your personal carbon use.
