I added true shooting percentage to show how the older players benefited from a faster pace of play and were not as efficient as players today. Yes, it's true they didn't have the 3 pointer, but it's not like Wilt was going to make many 3 pointers anyway.

Today's players also get the benefit of a lot more free throw attempts per shot. That is a huge factor when you can pull and James Harden and get three points without a field goal attempt. In Wilt's 50 ppg year he averaged a free throw for each 2.32 field goal attempts. Harden got one every a free throw each 1.7 attempts this year. hard to believe that the most physically dominating basketball player compared to his contemporaries wasn't fouled as much as Harden. Oscar a similar player to Harden during his triple double year got a free throw every 2.1 field goal attempts.

Is that true league-wide, or is that just Harden? I just checked and Lebron's career average is one free throw attempt for every 2.39 shot attempts.

Harden's game, especially since going to Houston, has been designed around drawing fouls. Few players in NBA history, Lebron included, have been as focused on that goal.
