Fastest Cars (production cars around the track)

Name the fastest production (mass produced) cars around the track. Be specific. This is according to fastest recorded and verified lap times at the Nurburgring.
Production car means street legal and stock.
Production car means mass produced (for the purpose of this quiz: 50 units in a single production year or 100 in the lifetime of the model)
This quiz is about proven and verified lap times, not claimed top speed or straightline acceleration capability.
Be specific with model names. Some manufacturers made the list multiple times. Exclude the model year.

It was a lot of work researching this quiz, mostly because the definition I was using for "production car" was stricter than most. I wanted to make sure that the car was produced in some significant quantity, and not just something they made a dozen copies of so they could race in some Le Mans cup race. But an actual production car intended to be sold to the public. However, it seems like most car companies for whatever reason carefully guard production and sales figures like important trade secrets, so it was quite difficult tracking down accurate figures for each of these cars. In the end, most of the cars listed on Wikipedia were acceptable under my definition but several had to be thrown out.

The only one that arguably should not be included is the Maserati MC12, which they made exactly 50 of over the course of 2 production years. My definition requires that 50 units be made in a single production year, but since this really was one single production run that just took longer and thus bled into a 2nd production year, I decided to allow it on the list. All of the others have production numbers well over 50/year, though some were still in double digits or low triple digits. If anyone is wondering, the Veyron has production numbers that easily could place it on this list, but compared to the Viper that costs literally 1/10th as much (or any other car on this list), it's just incredibly slow around the track.

Had to reset the quiz because I noticed a small typo in one of the answers. T_T Sucks... will probably take a year before the stats are back to where they were before.

and for whatever reason after I reset the scores a lot more people are guessing the GT-R than the far superior Viper. :P

Very recently there have been a couple runs that broke the 2010 Viper ACR's long-standing record, but I haven't updated the quiz mostly because it took a lot of effort tracking down stats before to complete this quiz, yet it never became very popular. I guess the subject matter is a little esoteric. I'll probably just leave it as is. The current record by what I would consider a "production car" is held by the Porsche 918 Spyder, which did an amazing 6:57, shaving almost 12 seconds off of the GT-R Nismo "Track Pack"'s impressive time. I'm not sure I would count the latter... I would have to dig up figures for exactly how many Track Pack GT-R Nismos are being produced. If it's fewer than 100 then I might discount them as a true production car.

I've been poking around Wikimedia Commons for a while and there are tons of good images there... not sure why you said there weren't many public domain pictures available on the reddit page.

Like this one would be perfect on this quiz.

The Gumpert Apollo Sport doesn't meet my standards for "production car." I considered it when I made this quiz and decided not to include it. I'm aware of the 918's impressive time. However this came about a year after I first made this quiz and I decided that given the low number of people who took it and the significant amount of research involved in producing it that it was not worth updating. Hadn't heard about the GTR but assuming the Nismo is a special version of it unless they made more than 50 of them I wouldn't count the time.
