Pro-tip: If you just type in the English translation of "Profuma di donna"- which is "Scent of a Woman"- you'll get that one. A bit amusing to me that nobody so far has.
The Last Man on Earth was released in 1964, and based on the novel I Am Legend. The Omega Man (1971), I Am Legend (2007), and I Am Omega (2007) could all be considered remakes of the first and original film. And, at any rate, The Omega Man was not from 1964.
It's an interesting question whether they qualify as remakes given that they are all based on a novel. I wouldn't say, for instance, that Pride and Prejudice (2005) was a remake of Pride and Prejudice (1940). It's just a separate adaptation of the novel. On the other hand, Psycho (1998) is most certainly a remake of Psycho (1960), even though the original film was based on the Robert Bloch novel. I guess it comes down to the specifics of each production.
reasonable point but I also think it's reasonable to think: there was a novel, someone made a film adaptation, we think we can make a better adaptation, so we're going to do it again. Again(re)do(make). Some films like this rely more on the source than others but it's still a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) attempt at making the same movie, more or less.
Not an easy quiz - that's for sure. I've only seen two of the originals: The one of the Grudge (I don't recommend it) and of Let Me In. What I really liked about Let Me In original was the German title "So finster die Nacht" (something like: So sinister the night). I got to add to this: Sometimes German titles sound really stupid (whether they just chose a different English title without a reason or it just sounds stupid). So when there's a great sounding one it sticks out. Though the English title of the original Comes straight from the Swedish title. Which just shows how sometimes German titles are very different.
I've seen The Absent-Minded Professor (silly), Rear Window (classic), Nikita (kitschy), Infernal Affairs (intense), and Abre Los Ojos (for an extra serving of Penelope). I also find foreign film titles sometimes bizarre.
Yesterday at the movie theater I saw ads for yet more remakes. Looks like they are redoing the Magnificent Seven (remaking the remake), and also I saw a poster for Ben-Hur. Probably with fewer horses killed or maimed in the production this time.
Just hit "Random Movie Quiz" and got this one. Looks like I'm the first to take it (and certainly to comment) in a while. Really enjoyed it, and got 14/20 correct! Pissed at myself for not coming up with Yojimbo or La Totale! before time ran out (they were definitely buried in my brain somewhere, but refused to surface), but pretty happy with the others I got and not surprised by the ones I didn't outside of those two.
