The heraldic emblem of Charlemagne was 3 toads , and of the later Valois 'semi de crapauds' - sprinkled with toads. These were understandably misinterpreted as 'Frogs' by the British and became a nickname.
Well. Whaz are you waiting for. Enlighten us, give us some example. I'm sure the QM woukd be delighted to have the quiz improved. Give us a question that has a real chance to be known by at least 20-25% people from all around the world. Hell, I'm from a former communist country and I can't think of a resonable answer.
Maybe instead of suggesting a title change, you could suggest some great answers in the eastern part of Europe that could be included...ones that the general population would have a chance at guessing. Quality quizmakers like Relessness do a lot of research to try to make good quizzes but the quiz isn't fun if the answers are so obscure that less than 50% can get the majority of them correct.
Just an aside: I feel like 4 front-page quizzes per day is the ideal number. 5 seems like overkill. Even though I often end up bored and looking through the site to find others... but on a day when I have things to do, 4 is still doable. And it never feels like too few except once in a while when 2 of the front page quizzes are on sports, 1 is on Pokemon, and 1 is fast typing to 100 or something like that.
Of course with "heraldic symbol" I kept thinking of animals, not the obvious answer. :P I spent a solid ten seconds trying to think if I could get rooster to work somehow...
Whenever I can't spell something and type-ins on JetPunk don't work I just go to google and start typing it in and they always get it with suggestions.
I should have done that with the northern region of Germany and Netherlands clue. I knew the answer, but I kept trying to add an e in there and couldn't figure out why it wasn't accepted, since Friesland is part of the region.
I misread the clue as, "Rome's main export." (Wouldn't have gotten the answer anyway, but I wouldn't have wasted time trying films, footwear, furniture, and Fiats.)
Could you pleeeaaase stop using the fleur-de-lys for France! It hasn't been a symbol for France in close to 200 years! The fleur-de-lys was the emblem of the French *monarchy*. The Republic uses either the rooster, or in more formal settings (such as on passports), the lictor's fasces upon branches of laurel and oak. If you absolutely *must* keep the fleur-de-lys, please change the clue to "*former* heraldic symbol of France", or "heraldic symbol of the French monarchy". Many thanks!
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
(I know, I know, "Roma-Fiumincino" but that's like Dallas-Ft. Worth...or SeaTac!) Cheers! :) Love your quizzes
