May 20, 2014
The football team changed to just the Warriors a few years ago. Some of the other school sports are still the Rainbow Warriors though. It's an odd system they have.

Not sure if they've since changed back or if they never really changed it, but they're definitely the Rainbow Warriors today.

Jan 7, 2021
It's a shade of red. I just want to know why "Cardinals" didn't show in the NFL and MLB also. Yes "cardinal" is a color - and the team name of Stanford - but "Browns" and "Reds" were there...
+1
Level 88
Mar 22, 2021
The Arizona Cardinals (NFL), Louisville Cardinals (CFB) and St. Louis Cardinals (MLB) are all named after the birds. Stanford's teams were named after their team color when the school dropped the previous nickname.

If you're going down to the college football level, you should include the professional CFL. That would add the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Ottawa RedBlacks. Also, time to add the Vegas Golden Knights.
+3
Level 91
Jul 5, 2017
It's not really that far "down" to the college football level. Big-time programs like Alabama, Michigan, and Texas actually generate a whole lot more revenue than many NHL and MLS teams do.
+3
Level 84
Dec 26, 2020
But the players aren't paid, which makes them amateurs. There are six major (professional) leagues in North America (the "Big 6"). The professional CFL didn't make the cut, but the amateur NCAA did.
+1
Level 64
Mar 22, 2021
I second this. If the professional leagues are limited to those that include teams in the US, it should be stated.

IF we really wanted to be technical, it should say "place name or university," since, indeed, Golden State is not the name of a city.

There is a color called tar heel blue more also called Carolina blue after the school. I don't think it should be included but it is food for though. If you describe something and say it's tar heel colored. A decent portion of the US population will know exactly what you are describing.

Well, how about the Mexican teams?

Diablos Rojos del Toluca

Cruz Azul

Gallos Blancos

and maybe more.

My point here is that North America is not only the USA.

Either changing the name of the quiz or adding more leagues would fix it.

I think you have to include the baseball team St Louis Cardinals, especially if you are accepting Stanford Cardinal. Cardinals may refer to the bird but Redskin refers to American Indians and the Browns refers to a person's last name. No relation to the colors but has a color in the name.
