Oh. My. God. How long did this take to make? And how did you get all the dots on there?
+2
Level 76
Nov 11, 2016
dots from here -> http://www.jetpunk.com/tools/place-dots

had to place them on world map but I then 'zoomed in' to europe

I have an Excel file city population and coordinates. took a while to calculate all distances to larger cities as data was big but now creating whatever quiz is quite simple. I can send you the excel file if you like

How do you make the places into different columns?
+2
Level 76
Nov 12, 2016
different columns? I don't understand
+2
Level 55
Nov 12, 2016
Do I put the coordinates on the link you put or when I'm making a quiz?
+2
Level 76
Nov 12, 2016
not too easy to explain - you put the coordinates on the link I put, then creat the svg file and save it. this is the file you then add to the quiz
+2
Level 55
Nov 15, 2016
It doesn't work
+3
Level 76
Nov 15, 2016
which part does not work?

1. copy places with coordinates (3 columns)

2. paste them on the link I put

3. create .svg file (using the button)

4. save the .svg file

5. in the new quiz, add the .svg as a map

nice map of the spread of the Bubonic Plague.

Amazing. This is a really challenging game and it's great fun.

But it's made even harder by not allowing "Geneva" or "Gothenburg" as answers - at least I couldn't get them to register until I tried Geneve etc. Not sure how many others there might be like that?

thanks for spotting those - there's probably many more! I've added those type-ins

Jyväskylä should be Jyvaskyla if don't use letter ä.

149 first try. If you're a WWII buff, that REALLY helps with some of the more obscure Russian cities.

Holy crap, the trypophobia. I had to cover the screen with my hand in order to scroll down to type this.

(yes I know trypophobia isn't a real phobia but it still is.....nasty)

not hating on this quiz though! I can't even imagine the time and research it took to make this and this is SUCH a cool concept, props to scambigol

Great quiz. But "Orkney" and "Shetland"? I typed in Lerwick and Kirkwall like mad, thinking about what city could possibly be bigger there. That's very misleading.

Damn, the English transliteration of the Cyrillic alphabet... I've lost at least 20 cities (mainly from Russia and Ukraine) because of that.

Had to google "Viipuri" or "Viaborg" in English. (Those are the Finnish and Swedish names for the town, it used to be Finnish before WWII.) And it wouldn't accept "Aarhus". The danes use "Aa" interchangably for "Å", so if you drop the circle, then you should add an A.

Very cool idea! But might I point out that "The Ruhr" is not *A* city, but an agglomeration consisting of 12 cities bigger than 100000 inhabitants each and a whole lot of smaller ones? The city that should show up there would be Köln (or Cologne) ...

Please, accept also Kryvyi Rih and Mykolaiv. It seems that you took an exception of the rule for the latinization of Ukrainian letters like й and ï and generalized it. Those two letters are both latinized as i, EXCEPT when they're in first position of a word, where they are indeed latinized as respectivly y and yi. Otherwise, you did a fantastic job on that quiz.

More spellings:

Lugansk (Russian for Luhansk)

Khmelnitsky (Russian), Khmelnytskyi (alternative Ukr. spelling)

Grodno (Russian for Hrodna)

Vitsebsk (Bielorussian for Vitebsk, and IMO it should be the main answer as all other cities are in Bielorussian)

Shupashkar (Chuvash for Cheboksary :-)
