Fun! But why are there only four answers to Greece's five largest islands? Euboea | Lesbos | Rhodes | Chios

The way it's phrased only islands 1-5 count, but not Crete, so 2-5 are valid answers. Same for the first question.

For the shared between multiple countries question, the island of Cyprus is shared between Cyprus (not counting Northern Cyprus as it's not fully recognized) and UK (Akrotiri and Dhekelia).

Shouldn't Shetland be Mainland? The archipelago is the Shetland Islands, but the largest island is simply known as Mainland.

The archipelago is called Shetland (see their own website here https://www.shetland.org) and is also known as The Shetland Islands.

Yes... we agree on the archipelago name. But we're pointing out the island name is 'Mainland'. This is 'Name a Valid Island' not 'Name a Valid Archipelago'.

Fair enough. I was arguing that the archipelago is known as Shetland, not The Shetland Isles. I agree that Mainland should be considered right, at least as a type-in.

Wait, the first question makes no sense. Technically every piece of land is an island, and I tried Afro-Eurasia and it didn't work.

SirPhillipines, don't you buy into the definition of "island" which excludes continental landmasses? And also, why have you spelled your own name wrong?

Australia isn't an island since it's the continental landmass of the continent Australia / Oceania. This is similar to the Americas and Afro-Eurasia.

add Cyprus for the shared islands question, as the UK has military bases there
+2
Level 56

military bases aren't overseas territories, otherwise the US would be in almost every country, therefore cyprus isn't technically shared with anyone, not counting northern cyprus which is only regognised by turkey

"One of the five largest islands, not counting Greenland", if greenland isn't counting, why would there be only four answers, and why isn't Australia one of them?
+1
Level 60
Apr 17, 2022
Australia isn't an island because it's the primary landmass for the continent Australia / Oceania, like Afro-Eurasia & the Americas. The reason why there are only 4 answers is because Greenland is included in one of the five largest islands, but it's not an answer. However, that is worded confusingly.
