16.Whether they're mosaic or ribbon, Pret a Manger or Newk's, or they're called torpedos or poorboys, they're delicious.
It actually is either promotor or promoter, so it was actually fine originally. Please check your answers before correcting someone. I am personally used to seeing it as promotor though.
Well done! I am amazed at how much the examples for topics I know about read like normal sentences and make total sense to me, and the others sound like made up gibberish!
Great sequel, only thing I can think to improve it is if you tell us what the hell they mean in an explanation. It's great that we get the subject but a brief resume of the sentence would be great.
Thanks! I considered doing that, but I think for some of these I would need to write an entire paragraph, for example the Calculus and Microbiology questions.
Dang it! My logic and my trivial knowledge got me all but one… I can’t believe a painting style would openly be based on something else! So derivative!
Great idea; I think you could take it further and offer answers which are more varied - for instance 11 and 13 sound like they could come from a film, the seamount one could be from a science fiction book, and maybe the street directions one could have a computer game as a possible answer?
I guessed quantum physics for the calculus one, as a "jump discontinuity" sounded a bit exotic for calculus, but what do I know.
Great quiz! I believe however that you should change 'microbiology' (study of bacteria, viruses etc) to 'molecular biology' (study of biologically important molecules and chemical reactions).
Great quiz! I'm going to echo Borsuk that #5 needs to be changed from microbiology (study of microscopic organisms) to molecular biology (study of biological processes at the molecular level), having studied both.
Great quiz, I'm curious how you would come up with these questions. My only nitpick is that 'Q double prime' could be better expressed as Q", no need to write it out.
Enjoyed this quiz a lot! But I am also going to echo both Borsuk and RedCait that #5 should be relabeled from "microbiology" (study of microbes) to "molecular biology" (study of molecules). Also, synthesis of RNA during transcription occurs in the 5' to 3' direction, not 3' to 5'
While I am not a professional biologist, and please correct me if I am wrong, I believe that microbiology is simply the study of micro organisms and their function, which would include transcription.
They tie into each other and while microbiology is technically correct, I think molecular biology would be more apt.
Microbiology is the study of microorganisms, but molecular biology focuses on the molecules that organisms create, i.e amino acids. Transcription is a part of this process, where DNA instructions are copied to become messenger RNA that codes to produce amino acids to become proteins to upkeep our biological processes.
Great idea for a quiz! Surprised that I managed to get 11...No excuse for several misses. My husband is a painter and taught biology, and I simply didn't read carefully enough on the African history to notice the give-away locations. Typically for me and jet punk, the easiest one for me was the one at the bottom of the success list. Once in a while being a professional musician comes in handy. (You can find these terms on my quizzes!)
The microbiology clue should definitely be changed to molecular biology. Microbiology is generally accepted as the study of microorganisms but not at the subcellular level. In addition, while reverse transcription can be 3' to 5', transcription occurs in a 5' to 3' direction.
I was confused about what a "poorboy" was but the mention of Newk's helped me with that question! Felt kinda weird though having that be the same thing as a "po'boy" (which btw is delicious!)
Great quiz!
