Both the Republican and Democratic parties have received 40%–60% of the popular vote in nearly every Presidential election since 1860.

I love the time in 1912 when Teddy Roosevelt became the only third party candidate to beat a major party candidate :)

And in the process handing the election to Wilson, who would have had little chance had Roosevelt stayed out of the race.

Personally, I would support Roosevelt over Taft or Wilson. As a liberal, I think that both of them are a bit too conservative for me :)

The name of the Whig Party is misleading to many modern folks. Most laugh at it and don't take it seriously, not bothering to consider that the D/R parties were formed from the Democratic-Republican party much later on. It's very interesting how long it took the Whig's to get someone in office, considering them as the big anti-Britain party since the unrest began.
