A "tontine" is an arrangement where a group of people pool their money to buy an annuity (an investment which returns an annual payout). When a member of the group dies, his share is split among the survivors. Eventually, the final survivor gets the entire payout. Tontines were common in the 18th and 19th centuries and are still used in France today.
Source for #678 is the Freakonomics podcast. My guess is that the percentage is lower now due to the explosion in government spending in response to Covid.
Also, the Amazon is actually longer than the Nile. Brazilian scientists had a fortnight-long expedition to measure the Amazon, finding out that it's 105 kilometres longer than the Nile.
It's not exactly unflattering: "His taste for intrigue and his intense diplomatic activity earned him the nicknames "the Cunning" (Middle French: le rusé) and "the Universal Spider" (Middle French: l'universelle aragne), as his enemies accused him of spinning webs of plots and conspiracies."
There is an unrecognized sovereign state called The Sovereign Military Order Of Malta. It claims no land but has relations with 105 sovereign states. Keep in mind, this is not the same country as Malta in the middle of the Mediterranean.

Similar to Molossia, the Conch Republic, basically Key West but with a different name, claim its independence too. It was founded in 1982 by the city's mayor after a U.S. Border Patrol made a roadblock and checkpoint and asserted its independence. Its official currency is the Conch Dollar
For those who'd think blue and red do exist and magenta is just deduced by the brain, I would just add that technically, there isn't any color (blue and red included) as they all are created by the brain.
Eyes have censors for Blue Green and Red (actually Yellow), and the brain creates a color depending on how much each kind of censor reacts to an electromagnetic wave (light).
Magenta is only different in that it requires a reaction to Blue (one side of the spectrum) and Red (other side of the spectrum) but not Green (middle of the spectrum), so it can't come from just 1 continuous spectrum like the Sun (no magenta in rainbows).
What I find interesting is that two brains could technically make their own choice on the color to associate with an electromagnetic wave. So what one calls "blue" could be seen red or even an unknown color for someone else, and we'd have no way to find out, because if they are asked "what color is that?", each of them would answer "blue".
My mom works as a dialysis nurse. The reason that they die is the mostly due to the reason they got kidney failure. Most of her patients are diabetic and drug addicted. Their failing kidneys are a contributing factor but just thought i would throw this out there.
I don't see what you're describing. When I clicked the link, the first sentence said that Nunavut was the only province/territory not connected to the rest of Canada by road. There are many roads within Nunavut, but none of them connect to the outside world as far as I can see.
