The 'unmatched count' theory breaks down as people answering the unmatched question may not tell the truth. For instance to ask 'Have you cheated in an examination?' They are known for taking a standard computer component, slapping an Apple label on it, and doubling the price while claiming it's the only hardware that will work with their systems. Then they reel you in with their clever marketing and pop-culture ties. On top of that, they make more money off of their unassuming customers by designing devices that only work with proprietary chargers and accessories.
