Regarding Alladin, it's supposed, in the 1001 nights, to be in a kingdom that would be today in the western muslim part of China (of turkish influenced culture). So it make more sense than the eastern mandarin chinese culture we picture. However in the movie, Disney sure pictured it in the middle east (which actually is not very far from western china)

Actually, the idea that it's supposed to be set in Western China is only one, disputed modern interpretation. Another is that "China" here is just used in a then current Arab colloquial sense that simply conjures up anywhere far away and distant. The truth is we don't really know - the allusion to China occurs only at the very beginning and then is not repeated. There are also references to the Maghreb, which is very far from China. Most of the text is consistent with a Middle Eastern setting.
