Aluminum is the most common metal in the Earth's crust. But aluminum used to be very difficult to extract from aluminum ore. This made it extremely expensive. In the mid-1800s, ingots of aluminum sold for $550 a pound - about twice the price of gold.

Mt. Whitney is the highest point in the United States outside of Alaska. It is located less than 90 miles away from Death Valley - the lowest point.
I think this would be a good one "Due to the curvature of the earth, the size difference between Colorado and Wyoming is enough to fit in Connecticut and Rhode Island" i.e. Colorado is enough bigger than Wyoming to fit in Connecticut and Rhode Island as well. Just a suggestion.
There is a race than runs from the lowest point in death valley to roughly the top of mount Whitney, called the Badwater Ultramarathon. it's a crazy race, my father crewed for a friend of his who ran it.
