Saying El Salvador starts with an "E" is analogous to saying The United States of America starts with a "T".

Me too, except I never realised. There's a single letter that clues you in to that. And one of the countries mentioned speaks French.

In French, the clue would have been " Pays entre le Mexique et le Canada".

"EEUU" should really be accepted as well, it's just an abbreviation/acronym of Estados Unidos.

Since the hint is in Spanish, I would assume that the answer is also in Spanish. Also, since the answer in English would not start with E, that would be another hint.

Only got the Wisconsin one because I've studied French and the literal translation worked, but missed the "USA in Spanish" one because I speak darn near no Spanish (Canadian, so French is the "other" language here by a LONG shot.)

I didn't mind the Spanish question (though, don't we always insist that this is an English site when other bring up different opinions?)

What I object to is that, if you're going to give a clue in Spanish (or any language) make it correct. In Spanish, it is LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS.

Calling Easter Island a part of the Americas is a bit like calling Guadeloupe a part of Europe.

I agree, over 2,000 miles from the nearest S. American land, on that standing Ireland is also part of the Americas being nearer to Canada than Easter Island is from the Americas.

Yeah. Crazy. Like calling Madagascar part of Africa, or New Zealand part of Oceania, or Iceland part of Europe, or Japan or the Philippines part of Asia. Absolutely bonkers. Nobody ever does that.

It's not the same at all. Easter Island is culturally and geographically Polynesian (which is usually defined as a triangle with its vertices in New Zealand, Easter Island and Hawaii) so it should definitely count as a part of Oceania. Don't be both condescending and wrong. It's not a good combination.

Yes. A ridiculous name for this quiz. Does the author think that the US is the only part of the Americas that matters?

(aside) Glad to see they fixed the name. It used to be "American geography" which would imply 18/18 should be about the USA.

As is, 12/18 seems about right. I don't think Lake Erie counts as it exists on the border between the US and Canada. One of the 12 is really a question about the Spanish language, and another you can answer more easily if you speak French than if you know much about the US. Which "E" answers that would be guessed by more than 21% of quiz takers do you think should have been included? They could have thrown on something about empanadas but then you'd see the complaints from people that don't understand what geography can mean.
