I live near a town called Cygnet that has lots of black swans, that probably helped me on that one, more than constellations, but regardless, keeping in mind those linguistic connections, be they to place names or constellation names, is very helpful.
I knew when I saw that one someone would devolve to the lowest denominator. Too bad we can't even play quizzes without someone being rude or prejudice against other people's opinions.
Who knows? I did know that the name of the island Anguilla is derived from the Latin word for eel, so that was my first guess too. I guessed right second time though. A bit of French/Spanish/Italian/Latin knowledge helps a lot with this quiz.
and... as for being odd... yeah... it's an old card and back then they would give any good creature or one with a powerful effect some kind of serious drawback. He becomes extremely OP, though, if you want something in play that gives all of your creatures haste. The opponent can't even respond to activation by killing him because the part of the card that returns him to your hand is part of the activation cost, not an effect of activation.
And don't forget that Remus was one of the founders of Rome who was raised by a wolf. Rowling loaded the books with similar names. For example, mundungus is a foul-smelling tobacco - seems perfect for Mundungus Fletcher.
For people with good vocabularies these obvious on-the-nose sort of names often give away plot points before they're supposed to be, in addition to sounding very silly and implausible. Like.. did his parents name him this knowing he was going to be a werewolf? Or did he decide to change his name after he became one just to make it really obvious?
Missed murine, anserine and vermian. In hindsight I have seen murine before, Would have got it if it was multiple choice (even with 15 options) the goose one rings no bells whatsoever. And the vermian makes a lot of sense, it nearly sounds the same ( especially if you use a sort of german accent, or tight lips/clenched jaw). I obviously tried things related to vermin but didnt get around to worms.
Interesting stats btw, steep drop from vulpine and down. And avian scored MUCH higher than I would have thought, above porcine and taurine! I thought most people were familiar with porc and red bull ;). As high on the food pyramid as pizza and cola.
(most will know taurus from the zodiac and minotaur I suspect though, but that was less funny :P)
I would agree with this. Arachnoid means relating to spiders or arachnids. Look up arachnid and you get "an arthropod of the class Arachnida, such as a spider or scorpion."
MIND BLOWN
Good one JK Rowling :)
Taurine= Tauros
Lupine= Professor Lupin
Ursine= Ursaring
Porcine= Pork
(most will know taurus from the zodiac and minotaur I suspect though, but that was less funny :P)
The rest I managed tho! Got Anserine as I knew Geese were Anseriformes. Got Aserine because of Ass.
Fun quiz!
