It is an older term used most commonly across the pond for male red deer. Females are called hinds. (Spending my time reading all those British historical novels pays off finally.)

I didn't know people had hedgehogs as a pet 0_o And I loved the clue for the hippo

It's true, you know. The hippo is considered the most dangerous animal in Africa, and more people are killed by hippos each year than by any other animal.

No, snakes, bees and dogs are much deadlier (and humans of course ;) ), not talking of mosquitos that do not kill directly. Still, Hippos are very strong and nasty beasts, that will attack (an most likely kill) any trespasser. They cause about 500 deaths each year.

I've been eating fish and chips on the south coast of England since 1970, the choice has always been cod or plaice. Haddock, available some places is really expensive.

All of these are real, except the hydra. But there really is an animal called a hydra - it's small, aquatic, and related to the jellyfish. I think the clue should be changed to reflect the animal, not the mythological creature - "Many-headed water beast of Greek mythology." "Small aquatic invertebrate named after a mythological Greek water beast." Nitpicky, I know, but more accurate.

Not more accurate, (there was nothing incorrect in the original clue) but more consistent perhaps.

so are cats, dogs, birds and soo forth. All animals come from this place called nature.

btw I wouldnt exactly call them wild, loud yes !!! extremely. The first time I heard it I did not know what was going on haha.

ZOne ( or more?) lives in my garden, and he likes to wander in after about 10 pm, makes his little round, sometimes takes a nap under my couch ( snorring loudly once) and takes of again. It is like a walking coffee machine haha (not a senseo...) prut prutl prutrr

For traditional fish used in Fish'n'chips may I ask you to add what region that question is pertaining to or add 'Hoki' to the list of answers. As in the South Pacific, Hoki is what is used for fish'n'chips - we don't have Haddock here.
