There's no one definition of what makes a continent a continent. A variety of aspects - geologic, cultural, etc - go into how these debatable fringe locales like Cyprus get umbrella'ed under one continental heading or another. To me, Cyprus belonging to Asia is like putting a tomato in a fruit salad -- you may have an argument but it's a very poor fit.
This is a tough one, as Cyprus is part of the E.U, but is very close to Turkey. I wish that the Middle East could be it’s own continent, what with how different it is from the rest of Asia.
Turkey, cyprus, lebanon, israel, jordan, saudi arabia, kuwait, qatar, uae, bahrain, oman, yemen, iraq, iran can be the continent of Middle East. Considering that turkmenistan, afghanistan, pakistan and uzbekistan should be a part. Unsure if tajikistan, kyrgysistan and khazakhstan can be a part. Any suggestions.
Many refers the countrys i mentioned first and every stan is middle east.
Some people even consider Sudan part of the Middle East, which would make it span 3 continents. But also, out of the stans, definitely not Tajik, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, or Kazakh. Turkmen is pushing it. Probably Paki and definitely Afghan. Then there's the Arabian peninsula, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, Cyprus, Bahrain.
@NorwegianQMaster, none of the stan countries are considered part of the middle east, and you forgot that the Sinai peninsula in Egypt is part of the middle east as well.
Views on Cyprus notwithstanding, when it comes to the choice between "TinklePork" and "PickleChicken", I think I know which recipe I'd probably go with.
Yes... Yes 100% yes. In the comments I always want to put "I can already hear the Cyprus debates..." but It's always long after the quiz is made and the debates are settled... well not settled, just abandoned.
Cyprus does have one border. I agree that Northern Cyprus can't be considered a state, but Turkey and its military have been holding half of the island for decades. The situation is not unlikely to the Republic of Crimea, which Jetpunk considers part of Russia.
So think that Cyprus ought to be moved to the "one border" column.
That's why I referred to the Republic of Crimea, which is considered part of Russia by Jetpunk even if it's illegally occupied. In both cases, the "occupation" has been done by force against international legality and without UN approval. Both cases should be treated equally.
Irrespective of status of Northern Cyprus, the country is bordered by the British Sovereign Bases of Akrotiri & Dhekelia, which are legally part of United Kingdom.
I wouldn't count Cyprus as Asia. Geographically it's definitely borderline asian, but Turkey is considered 50/50 asian/european so I guess the same goes for Cyprus. BUT, their population is 2/3 greek/european and they're a part of the european union.
I'd definitely consider it an european country. Counting it as an asian country I guess could be considered correct, but most people consider it european so I think it's weird in quizzes like this.
Turkey is not considered 50/50 Asian/European at all. Turkey has 1/2 of a major city in Europe and a small bit of land, whereas the capital, and all other major cities are in Asia, along with >90% of the land. As for Cyprus: politically, they are closer to Europe, but physically, they are much closer to Asia. Even closer to Africa than to Europe!
Definitely not 2. That's like saying that Canada has 2 borders when it only had one. and that's if the bases would even be counted. I may just me uneducated on this part of the debate but wouldn't they be considered overseas territories such as the Saint Martin/Sint Maarten.
CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE CYPRUS IS IN EUROPE
I understand the point of view of JetPunk admins who consider Cyprus to be Asia, and I agree with them. But then, if we consider merely geographical and not cultural/historical factors, the whole of Russia should also be considered Asia, Moscow being even further east than Cyprus.

It's infuriating how often I miss exactly one answer to get 100% on jetpunk.
