Accepting "pashto", why not "pashtu" as well?

I'd agree with that. There could be some reason why it's not right though.

The main reason is that Pashto and Pashtu relate to the language, not to the people.

Surprised had to add the g to the Beijing answer. Without the g is also an old English spelling of the city.

Not really. Is the name mentioned? Yes. Is there anything to connect it to the nukes question over the Manila or Macau questions? No. Could we still guess Paraguay or Papua New Guinea for the nukes question? Yes. Would we still be wrong? Yes.

I had this conversation or variations in the Arab world many times:

I've been to Alexandria.
You mean Al Iskandria?
No.. I mean Alexandria.
But the name in Arabic is Iskandria
Yeah that's because they got confused and warped the first part of the name of the city into an article. It would be like if I went home and told eveyone I had been to "the mama" (there's a popular area of the desert near Riyadh called "thumamah")

There’s a typo in the second question. It says “erupted 1991”, but I’m pretty sure there’s supposed to be an “in” in between.

Unfortunately the 'Golden Nitpick Award' for Nov. 2017 has already been awarded, but I think 'Insaniot' really deserves a special award so....... A 'Diamond Nitpick Award' is now given to Insaniot....... Congratulations.
