Switzerland? What in the world are they exporting there, gold-plated caviar?

The source actually shows what the exports are. You're not wrong about the gold. "Gold incl. gold plated with platinum, unwrought or not further worked than semi-manufactured" is #2 on the list for Russian exports to Switzerland. It goes by value though. Those numbers in the quiz are USD. That's a really interesting source. I could check stuff all day.

All Russia might have for Switzerland would be oil, I'm guessing.

No no, that Switzerland number (87.4 billion) has come straight out of an April Fools Joke quiz. See here for some more sensible numbers. Think about it: Switzerland only has 8 million people, so its per-capita imports from Russia would be so far off the planet compared with other nations.

Well, that's frustrating. You are right of course, and Harvard's data is way off. I corrected the quiz using a better source. Now I have to fix the quizzes for all the other countries too. What a waste of an afternoon.

No worries. To paraphrase Babe Ruth, every dodgy quiz brings you one step closer to writing the next excellent one (he said "every strikeout brings me one inning closer to my next home run").

Netherlands? Is that counting everything that goes through Rotterdam port?

Netherlands seems pretty random to have the most exports from Russia? Because Russia has so many things that the Netherlands needs like... land above sea level... and... um... Uranium? "Hey Bill so what do you think about these windmills?" "They would be cooler if they were nuclear powered." " Hmmm? Where can we get some atomic fuel?"

The source actually shows what the exports are. Russian exports to the Netherlands are 81.3 % "mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral". Next are copper and nickle since Russia has a lot of mineral resources.

Obviously the Dutch do not consume 30 billion worth of imported goods/material from Russia. It is indeed shipped to Rotterdam first, but then re-dispatched throughout Europe and beyond.

The Netherlands often appears high up in list of trading partners, and it is as you suspect: so much passes through the port of Rotterdam en route to elsewhere.

Almost all of the Gas the Duch use is coming from Russia, so yeah

Maybe the Dutch have picked up a bad vodka habit? But yeah, this sounds really suspicious to me, too.

But they are not the same! Holland are just the two provinces North Holland and South Holland. Netherlands is the name of the entire country

I get the England one, even though I suspect a lot of Scots, Irish and Welsh wouldn't be happy with that, but the difference with the others is Holland doesn't contempt our claim to the land. We're just the Netherlands, there's no argument. The only reason people still refer to us as Holland is because we were too lazy to keep correcting people and just use it as international tourist name

Update this quiz and factor in sanctions from the west.

Even though that would be unrealistic, because of the changing numbers with every new santions package (not to mention what would happen if Russia fell into civil war, or made peace with Ukraine), that would be a nice idea for a quiz
