Pretty sure it's not British, I only got that answer 'cause I heard it on a repeat of an American sitcom, never heard it anywhere else.

It's a kind of initiation given to "the new guy." A kind of fool's errand, like sending a new sailor to get 50 feet of "chow line."

Isn't a snipe like the bird in Disney Pixar UP? I wonder if it looks the same as the movie...

there was no snipe in the film up. The old man sent the boy out to look for one to get rid of him i.e. a fool's errand. It didn't make sense to me until I saw this quiz.

I enjoyed this quiz but you know your not concentrating when you think 'The Joker' is the bird in Batman. And quizmaster- it's 'Captain' Jack in Pirates!

Because I don't think Neil Armstrong ever said 'That's CAPTAIN Neil Armstrong', or got other people to say it. 'CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow' is a pretty memorable quirk, almost as memorable as his hat.

I live in Texas, and going on a snipe hunt is a practical joke. Heard it all my life, so I've never fallen for it. ;)

When I was a maitre d', the line cooks used to send new busboys to the supply closet (two floors down in the basement) for canned steam & a left-handed spaghetti bender.

Knew them all except the skateboarder, so I just started typing random birds and got it with 3:04 left. I guess that makes me a bird brain.
