I remember watching the Independence Bowl one time when it was snowing in Shreveport and they had no real way to clear the field...they eventually rigged up some kind of a plow on a riding mower and at least cleared off the hash marks and yard lines. It was awesome. Had to be 20 years ago.
My age is showing again. I tried Tangerine Bowl instead of Citrus - did it really change names as far back as '82??? I also tried Hula Bowl and Pecan Bowl. Anyone else remember those?
The Hula Bowl was played 61 times, so it could arguably be on the list. However, it was more of an All-Star game than a true bowl (like the Senior Bowl and Blue-Grey Bowl).
If you are going to accept commercially named bowl names (Outback Bowl), then you should accept Taxslayer or Taxslayer.com Bowl (Current Name) for the Gator Bowl. The Outback Bowl was previously known as Hall of Fame Bowl before it got sponsored by Outback.
The Cheez-It Bowl in Arizona has been played 30 times - almost enough to make the list - but under several different names including Copper, Cactus, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Insight Bowl. What could be better than watching the Cheez-It Bowl? Hmm, what snack would be good with that one?
