This must be like the millionth time we Spanish-speaking quizzers have said things in this tone: Spanish surnaming doesn't work the same way as English's. We have two surnames, and many people use both, like García Márquez, due to having a rather common first surname (like García).
Please (very much please), when in doubt about a Spanish-speaking famous, check in Wikipedia how their full name works.

Yes, thank you to all the commenters who have made me aware of this fact. Thought I got it right this time but I guess not. Garcia will work now.

Interesting, I didn't know about this Spanish naming tradition.

Typically the first surname is taken from the person's father and the second from the person's mother. In the Philippines they sometimes end up with more than two.

Can I suggest to allow "great" or "greater" for "Gran Colombia"? I never thought it would only be known in English under a Spanish name.

I've only ever seen it referred to by the Spanish version of the name in any histories I've read, but I figure it doesn't Great or Greater being allowed wouldn't hurt.

I tried Great and Greater before realising it would be in Spanish. You can never be sure with Jetpunk, because 'it's a quiz conducted in English...." etc.

I visited Colombia for the first time two years ago. Probably my all-time favourite country. Incredibly beautiful and diverse and the people are very hospitable and welcoming whilst also knowing how to have fun (there is music everywhere you go in Colombia, and its produced an incredibly wide array of distinct genres). But yeah, above all it was the diversity of landscapes that really amazed me. In a country smaller than my home state, you can visit Amazonian rainforest, misty moorlands, glaciated peaks, white sand Caribbean beaches fringed by monkey-filled jungle, and the bare and sun-baked deserts of La Guajira - not to mention the beautiful cities, particularly Bogota around La Candelaria and Cartagena, the Caribbean fortress city.

Good to know, but I've also heard that Colombia is one of the rainiest countries in the world, and have one of the highest crime/homicide rates?

Surely you can come up with another question that isn't Escobar related. As Colombian I'm really tired of answering that question.

Frankly, I have never heard of Gran Colombia until now, but I actually guessed it right. For some reason my train of thought led me to "Greater Colombia" or something and when that didn't work I just tried the Spanish word. Quite happy with myself!
