I spent some time in NZ myself and I do not recall any particular cheese fanaticism amongst the Kiwis! Weird! Nor do I think they'd be exporting to Asia, but maybe they're helping supply Australia for all I know.

They have loads of cows and sheep as you'll know from some other quizzes, but I agree that they don't seem to eat it as much as French, Dutch, Georgians etc

That surprised me too, but it makes sense since they have such a high number of cattle in the country.

lol it's a known fact that French cheeses (comte, chêvres, brie, camembert, tomme de savoie and hundreds others) are best, Italian ones (parmigiana, burrata, mozzarella) are second.

Sweden is the only Nordic nation not there. What happened? Did they go vegan? XP

Sweden would have to produce twice as much cheese. Their population is almost twice as big as Denmarks or Norways.

When I visited Madrid and Galicia cheese was such a big deal (as was pork) so I expected to see Spain, but guess the rest of Europe loves Cheese more than Portugal, UK, Spain and Greece. Not surprised by there being no Central American, East Asian or African countries.

Places such as New Zealand produce a lot of cheese for export as well as local consumption. Whereas the UK, Spain etc. make enough cheese for local consumption and also import cheese from other sources. The population of places such as UK and Spain is large enough to bring down the averages:

Yes - I totally missed the per capita bit. I wonder how much difference the table would be without it?

It totally does not, otherwise you would just have the same old boring list of countries with high population (minus african and asian countries) (with exeptions of course, but much less interesting than this one. So it doesnt kill the stats it actually gives some interesting information, bigger countries always produce more of everything so that does not tell you much at all..)

Dairy farming uses a lot of land and also a lot of water. Also most people in Asia are lactose intolerant so dairy is not a major part of their diets. For example about 90% of ppl in China eat NO dairy products.

45 kilos for the netherlands, that sounds about right. Slightly less than a kilo per week, that is indeed the amount I go through... though I am cutting down :D
