Why only Roman Catholic cathedrals? Is there no data for other denominations' cathedrals?

There are just not that many compared to the RC church. The Anglicans / Episcopalians have cathedrals, as do the eastern orthodox denominations, but the numbers pale in comparison. Methodists and Lutherans have some, but also not that many.

I think that the numbers for the UK at least, and many other majority Protestant countries, might change the figures significantly.

Orthodox cathedrals are also harder to count, as it is a bit more fluid title, i.e. not necessarily a seat of a bishop.

And because of decentralized organization of non-Catholic churches, data might be less readily available than http://www.catholic-hierarchy.org/ or http://www.gcatholic.org

Why not? It's just a quiz and that's the parameters set by the question.

I've been Methodist most of my life and I would have said we don't have any cathedrals, but after checking Wikipedia apparently in the US we have four. Not sure why, since our bishops function differently and aren't necessarily tied to those churches.

I don't think they really are cathedrals in the Catholic/Russian Orthodox since of the word. I just think they are being a bit grand maybe because of the size of their congregations. I looked them up individually and don't see how they would fit the category of cathedral. I can't imagine any of the Protestant religions ever adopting any of the Catholic terminology. So I think its safe to say that you Methodists and we Baptists don't have cathedrals just some really big churches.

^ A large amount of the UK's cathedrals are Protestant.

Wikipedia counts only cathedrals with their own articles. This is a much better source I think, you just have to decide if you count all former cathedrals or none. I would go for none, because that summary page apparently lists only active Catholic churches that used to be cathedrals. If you open country page the numbers are higher, as they add ruins, churches under construction and churches converted into secular buildings, mosques, other denominations etc. You should add "Catholic" in the title IMO.

I don't want to reset the quiz so quickly after making it. I feel like the Wikipedia data is a good start, and they do list plenty of cathedrals that don't have their own pages. But this quiz will probably never be 100% accurate.

Besides protestantism, WW2 destruction and power battles between church and royalty, Germans are also not very religious. A quick look in Wikipedia shows 23 million Catholics in Germany vs. 33 in Poland.

The US has almost 10 times as many cathedrals and no where close to 10 times the Catholics. It's a little more than 3 to 1. About 71 million American Catholics and according to you 22 million German Catholics. For that perspective it is a surprisingly low number.

I am too. Not that I make it a point to go into cathedrals when I make my semiannual trip to see the in-laws but I must have been in at least half of them if there are only 29.

Apparently 16.5 million protestants and 7.5 million Catholics. Not that many but I guess due to the size of the country and poor connections the Vatican decided for a bigger number of bishops.

I like! Very good eye-opener for the Anglosphere and its many preconceptions. Special commendation for the clarification of Latin and other rites. Actually "Latin rite" covers the erroneous "Roman" amusingly used in the Anglosphere to underscore presumed disloyalty to the Crown and America.
