There is India twice on the list.

Yeah, it surprised me too for a second, but there are two columns for inside/outside Africa

The two columns are overall and outside Africa. India is the only country outside Africa with a high enough number to make the overall column.

Yeah, I worded that very poorly

I guess that India's number is only that high because of its huge population. I wonder if there is another quiz for deaths as a percentage of the population.

It's also a poor country with plenty of environments ideal for breeding mosquitoes, but the population is obviously a factor.

What surprises me more is that the numbers are so low for Pakistan and Bangladesh. The healthcare in India is at least as good, if not better than these two neighbours.

Yeah, but apart from the much larger population India also has a lot more land area in the tropics, which is where Malaria thrives.

this indicates that Bangladesh had 15,000 malaria deaths in 2006. Did things improve that much in 7 years? I'm not surprised about Pakistan- much drier, more mountainous country than India.

Mali surprised me - I assumed it would be too dry for there to be many mosquitoes. Depressing quiz though.

The northern half of Mali is rather dry but the southern part of the country is jungle

I was surprised by Yemen (thought it would be too dry) and Venezuela (never thought it was a big problem in S. America).

There is a significant chunk of highland Yemen that has a seasonal tropical/monsoon climate thanks to a very light rainshadow effect. I'd assume that despite the near-desert conditions, every year seasonal rainfall and tropical temperatures are just enough to breed mosquitoes and malaria.

Surprised that Central African Republic missed out, that's where I got Malaria and I wasn't the only one.

But, to be fair, you wouldn't have been part of the statistics. It's malaria deaths, not malaria cases. I think these countries are the triangle in the middle of a venn diagram where the three circles are overpopulation, warm climate, and third world economy.

You are probably correct 'tschutzer', although I think malaria causes so much hardship among the population even though many more suffer from it then die.

Is there a way to make the Inside / Outside Africa more prominent? I got 100%, but I didn't see those columns. Also, the comma is missing in 15,000.

Added different colors to distinguish the columns. Also the missing comma has been dealt with.

I wonder if sickelcell deaths are included, which is a directly related to Malaria immunity,

Maybe don't say Countries outside of Africa, because India falls in that category although it is in the majority category.

But India is outside of Africa and it's also one of the majority countries

Yemen? Isn't it mostly desert?

Mostly. But the population is crammed mostly in to the southwest corner of the country which is pretty swampy in the areas by the coast.
