When you know the Periodic Table off by heart, it doesn't make a difference if the element is well known or not.

Why does "gold" appear when you answer "gadolinium"? Similar thing happened for multiple other answers (i.e. the answer was accepted, but what was typed didn't appear). Just wondering.

Sorry - read the qualifying statement at the top after I posted my comment. I guess the way it's set up is easier to manage.

(answering as a quiz maker) When you make an answer for each letter, the answer you put is what shows up when someone guesses it. You can also make it so more than one answer is accepted to get that question right. Even if you answer with one of the other answers that are accepted, what the quiz maker originally put is what shows when you answer the question.

Lithium is more guessed then lead? Well that's odd.

Presumably many people did it like I did and started at the beginning for what they had memorized from high school chemistry.

As someone whose main language isn't English I go for the ones that are very similar or exactly like the German names first. Lithium is exactly the same while lead couldn't be any more different (Blei). That's why lead hardly comes to my mind. I actually use Plumbum for it in these quizzes.

My guess for 'L' was Livermorium. Unsure why that occurred before either lead or lithium.

If you do this quiz by reciting the periodic table in order, then you will get lithium first.

what makes you think lithium is more guessed than lead. No way to know right. Lithium is just the answer the quizmaker decided to be shown (out of all the possible ones starting with "l" same goes for all the other letters)

I think Valium is some kind of drug that relaxes you. I here people in American TV shows say things like "Have you taken a Valium yet?" whenever someone's stressed.

For K, my mind kept coming back to Potassium. Took a good 15 seconds to come up with Krypton.

Also, I'm surprised dubnium is guessed more than dysprosium

I typed in tin, thinking it was my answer for "S," but it turned out to be my "T" instead. As for dubnium, maybe it's easier to spell? It took me several tries to finally produce dysprosium correctly.

Well that was... weird but fun! I got 23/23, but only my "F", "K" and "U" to "Z" were the same as the most commonly one shown! That means I only matched the most common 7/23 times. Like who guesses "Hafnium" and "Mendelevium" as their first for "H" and "M"? Me apparently!

I can't BELIEVE I missed Krypton, Yttrium and Zinc. ZINC. UGH. I got some obscure ones though. As in, probably not the first thing that should come to mind. My answers were: Arsenic, Berylium, Calcium, Fluorine, Germanium, Helium, Iodine, Lithium, Magnesium, Nickel, Oxygen, Potassium, Radon, Sulphur, Tungsten, Uranium and Xenon.

My first guess for U was ununtrium, and that is an element. Why isn't that accepted?
+2
level 73
May 21, 2018
All Un- names are given pending the confirmation of the discovery of the element. When it's done, they're given a definitive one. Right now, there is no three letter elements. Your Ununtrium has been renamed Nihonium 1 year and a half ago along with Livermorium, Tennessine and two others I forgot about. EDIT: Sorry, after checking, it appears Livermorium has been named so before that.

I think I did, astatine, beryllium, calcium, darmstadtium, erbium, fluorine, gallium, helium, iodine, krypton, livermorium, manganese, neon, oxygen, ?,radium, strontium, tungsten, uranium, vanadium, xenon, yttrium, zinc. So only for fluorine, oxygen, yttrium and zinc I guessed the suggested answers. (excluded the ones that only have one option)

PS I think this quiz has way too much time, i had 3 mins left. Could do with a minute or 2 less. The high percentages reflect that aswell
