Just my opinion. But a lot of people cheat on these quizzes. There is no way the legit average score is 38.

It's only been taken 74 times. Give it time. Once it becomes featured on the front page, that will go way down. The only people taking it are the ones seeking it...ergo nerds like me :-)

I disagree. Learning capital cities is pretty easy, so I would expect it to be high. I went blank on two of them but got the rest without cheating.

I didn't have to cheat. I legitimately knew most of them then the ones I didn't know I just guessed at the countries until I got them right. If it had been "here's the country - guess the capital" I would not have gotten more than 3/4

I easily got 100% first time through no cheating required. And 38 seems about right. Take off the bottom 7 least-guessed answers and look at what's left. Most people have at least heard of those answers and could guess them if nothing else. Personally I find it harder to believe that 15% of people missed San Marino and the Vatican.

Personally, I only got 35 on my first pass through, but I knew which countries I hadn't guessed yet--primarily the Balkans/FYRs and Baltic states--so I went back through, trying the countries I hadn't entered yet, until I got them all.

If you know all the countries in Europe, it's not hard to narrow it down to just the smaller countries, and then all you have to do is look at how the word sounds and think of the language area.

39 on first try. Had to draw a map of western europe back in 7th grade and color and label it, have never forgotten that assignment. :) Almost 40 years ago, and it's seared into my memory. Ones I miss are former Yugoslavia, cause in my mind Belgrade is still the capital of Yugo.

Actually I thought this was pretty straight forward, way easier than doing it the other way round. On quizzes that ask for the name of the city I always forget a few or get stuck on some spellings, naming the country is fairly basic by comparison.

I get all the 196 countries, and my best world capitals is 146 going to press, so it's not that fanciful that people like myself get %100 on this quiz is it? remember people taking this quiz are quiz-goers not the average man on the street that is not into quizzes.

to me, cheating is reading the comments first to look for clues, or looking up answers you don't know before you actually start the quiz...maybe you should have just 15 seconds before it starts automatically. doing and redoing is NOT cheating, it's a learning process, especially when it's a long quiz.

I think another thing to consider is that the people taking this quiz probably already know quite a bit about European geography, so the scores are likely to be higher. If someone didn't know anything about the capitals of Europe or didn't care to know, they probably wouldn't take the quiz.

38 out of 45 seems about right. It wouldn't be the average if you surveyed a bunch of random people on the street about European capitals. Not even close. But a self-selected group of people who specifically came to a trivia site and sought out a geography quiz is hardly a random sample.
