I tried just fluff. >.< Didn't get that you were supposed to guess the name of a fabric.

A sheep's wool is called a fleece (as in the Golden Fleece), it's not just the name of a fabric (which is usually made of man-made fibres anyway).

^^Spun polyester should never legally be allowed to be called fleece. Like so many other products, the sheer volume of shysters allows it to become "normal".

Could the last one be "fall"?

That's all I thought of. We don't see a lot of snow - falls, flurries or otherwise - in Australia.

Hey, I skiied in the Snowy Mountains in Australia!

but snowfall is just precipitation in the snow form in general. A rain shower is just light but intense rain, which is what a flurry is for snow.

I tried "floo," "flu," and "flou." More spellings please?

Oh so that's why in Harry Potter they call it floo powder! They travel through chimneys which are called FLUES!! I get it!!

TIL Rowling was witty in naming yet another HP thing, and also that chimneys are called flues (what?? NEVER heard that, ever).

A fly and a flea in a flue were imprisoned, so what could they do? Said the flea, 'let us fly'. Said the fly, 'let us flee'. So they flew through the flaw in the flue.

Level 24
Feb 26, 2019
The flue is actually the inner shaft; the chimney is the whole structure.

showers are to rain as freezers is to snow.
+1
Level 65
Feb 28, 2019
Your recommendation for the analogy doesn't qualify as an analogy. Showers don't cause rain to be in liquid in the similar way that freezers cause snow to be in a solid form.

Could brotherly be "fraternity" as well?
+1

Fraternity is a noun. As brotherly is an adjective, the clue clearly requires an adjective as an answer.

What about "fight" for prolonged and bitter quarrel? Maybe it's not as good as "feud" but it still fits. I think.

A flue is a part of a chimney, not another word for a chimney (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/flue). Fireplace would be closer, though it's still only a part of a chimney (the opening at the bottom). I think fireplace should at least be accepted as well as flue.

"A flue is a duct, pipe, or opening in a chimney" - extract from the wiki entry, so clearly a part of a chimney, not another word for chimney. If you asked for 'historical word for chimney' then you might be correct

Fireplace is definitely not closer, you might as well say firescreen or firepoker or log is closer. Do you have a fireplace on your roof?

Better analogy IMHO. My weatherman makes a distinction between flurries and snow showers.
+1

Yes, a shower is more about duration than intensity. Flurries are always light, but can last a while. A shower can be heavy, but is always short.

A lie could also be a falsehood.

Fireplace could also be analogous to chimney since a flue is also not a chimney, but the metal vent inside the chimney that controls the amount of air that flows in and out.

Level 67

A flue is everything but the brick itself of the concept chimney. The fireplace is not a chimney at all (it is as wrong as calling a campfire a chimney) or part of it. Chimney is the structure above the fire place to let the smoke out (aircanal usually made by bricks, also in places without a fireplace like a factory)

A chimney can also be referred to as a funnel - just think of the Titanic.

Not always the most reliable of sources but from wiki -

The term "funnel" may refer to the chimney or smokestack on a steam locomotive and commonly refers to the same on a ship.

Actually, a lie is something that is deliberate and said with the intent to mislead. Lies don't have to be falsehoods. Quoting a truthful statement out of context with the intent to mislead is a lie.
